Cotton On payroll checks bounce, employees effected

My daughter works for Cotton On, the Australian-based clothier.

Due to government orders arising from COVID-19, Cotton On shut down their stores here in CA a couple of weeks ago. At the time, they told employees that they would continue to be paid for 15-hours work per week thru March 31. They would let employees know what the future held on April 1.

My daughter got a pay check from them last Friday, which she deposited. It included her last week of employment earned in the store, plus the first week of shutdown money.

Yesterday, that check bounced, and my daughter got slapped with a $12 bank fee for her trouble. And that April 1 call letting her know what the future held never happened.

Bastards. I’m sure this won’t be the last time this kinda crap happens.

will they be approved for benefits, but also that they can turn down any offer from Cotton On to return to work without fear of losing their UI benefits. The government is not going to insist anyone return to work for an employer who has demonstrated bad faith by bouncing checks to their employees.

at work. If the bank doesn't immediately rescind the fee, they should be Identified.
In any case this story should go viral.
