DLCC Announces Record-Breaking First Quarter Fundraising

WASHINGTON — The Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee reported raising over $6.4 million in the first quarter of the year. This is the organization’s best first quarter in its history and a nearly 30% increase from the same quarter in 2018. Grassroots support played a huge role in the organization’s success, with over 25,000 individual donors powering an online fundraising record for the quarter. In a clear sign of strength heading into a critical election year, the DLCC is starting 2020 with its strongest fundraising numbers ever.

“Democrats are making unprecedented investments in legislative races this year,” said Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee President Jessica Post. “We have energy and momentum on our side as we fight to give Democrats a seat at the table for redistricting, which will determine powers in the states for the next decade. Since Trump’s election, Republicans have spent millions of dollars only to lose majorities across the country and we are starting 2020 with the resources to challenge them everywhere.”

In another first for the committee, the DLCC had a better first fundraising quarter than their Republican counterparts. This puts Republicans at a disadvantage in a year they will be forced to defend slim majorities. Since Trump’s election, the DLCC has chipped away at the RSLC’s fundraising advantage and flipped 10 chambers and more than 430 seats from red to blue.

The DLCC also announced a round of hires earlier this week as the committee prepares for 2020. In its most ambitious target map ever, the DLCC is on track to spend $50 million in its “Flip Everything” campaign to win legislative majorities across the country. The committee plans to target 19 Republican-held chambers in 13 states this November.

“This is bad news for Republicans as they try to cling to their fragile majorities in key states,” added Post. “Democrats know how much is at stake in this election and that is clearly reflected in our record-breaking fundraising numbers. We’re going to spend more than ever before to flip state chambers and for the first time in a decade we will be fighting with a larger war chest than Republicans.”
