I would say the assault is escalating, as it has been under assault for decades.

The truth is now whatever you can make people believe. I think it was that villain Frank Luntz who wrote a book titled “Words That Work” and another villain, Newt Gringrich, who started the hateful expression, the “Democrat Party”.
