'Act as though it's going to be a lot longer': American in Wuhan warns U.S. over lockdowns

An American who spent more than two months locked down in the Chinese city of Wuhan, where the coronavirus epidemic first emerged, is urging people back home to prepare for a lengthy interruption to their lives.

“Don't go into this thinking it's going to be over in a few weeks,” Benjamin Wilson told NBC News from his apartment in Wuhan where he and his family spent eight weeks in confinement.

After initially experiencing problems getting evacuated back to the U.S., Wilson, 38, chose to stay in the city where he has lived for more than 16 years, with his Chinese wife, Li Qin, and seven-year-old daughter Jasmin as it went into lockdown in late January.

For six out of the eight weeks that the family spent cooped up inside, they could not leave their apartment at all, relying on delivery services for their daily needs.

for a vaccine so yeah.

I can foresee the early survivors being offered high paying gigs due to their immunity before the vaccine is available for everyone else.

Real dystopian shit.

for another year or so, and unless things change dramatically for the better, I'm figuring on staying home for at least that long - until a vaccine or effective treatment is available to everyone and there's widespread herd immunity.

is....it will be announced that the ban will be lifted on a certain date, a bunch of yokels will take that cue and go out early, all over the country, and thus wave 2 will be born which will be almost as bad as wave one.

After looking at the Spring breakers, and looking at the fact that a good portion of the country STILL refuses to social distance, I honestly believe that the US does not have what it takes to get over this.

Therefore, we are screwed until enough people get it that herd immunity develops.
