Target announced Thursday that it is adding new measures to promote safety and social distancing to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
The Minneapolis retailer said in a news release that beginning Saturday, April 4, it "will actively monitor and, when needed, meter guest traffic in its nearly 1,900 stores nationwide to promote social distancing."
Occupancy limits will vary by store and based on a specific location's square footage "to enhance the average space per person and reduce the possibility of congestion," Target said.
If a store needs to limit shoppers, there will be a "designated waiting area outside with social distancing markers."

(61,846 posts)If shoppers are lined up closely together outside the store for an hour or more, that can defeat the purpose of social distancing. This has actually happened.

(10,749 posts)Grocery chain the northeast is doing that. Shopping was a joy. Quiet. No store announcements. Muzak turned down to almost nothing. I loved it. The wait outside was less than five minutes and people were respecting the physical distancing.
What was annoying, and is annoying all the time anyway, is groups that shop. Spouses. Parent and teenage child. Look folks. Shopping is not rocket science. Leave the spouse in the car. Leave your teenager in the car. Leave your roommate/partner/friend home.
