....such a tiny woman, but she packs a punch. Hard to believe she's been Mayor for less than a year.

PS - my mother was only 4'-11" and 100 pounds, but she was the toughest (and kindest) woman I've ever known.

Most all my people were farming and timber country folks that went thought the Great Depression and WW2 the hard way - very poor, but somehow came out the other side to be compassionate, loving and would give you the shirt off their back, but very thrifty.

There was an expression I heard as a kid that still sticks like glue: although they said it tongue-in-cheek, when our modern society disgusted them, some would say "what this country need is another Great Depression".

Took me many years to fully comprehend what they meant was we needed a huge dose of humility.

That day may well be with us now.......

Chicago, the "City that Works" is known as such in part because when things get tough, Chicagoan's know how to, as the Mayor just did, exhibit righteous anger.
