“The U.S. Supreme Court Friday said it will scrap the oral argument schedule for the rest of the term amid the coronavirus pandemic but left open the possibility that it might hear a few cases before the term ends in late June,” NBC News reports.

“Nine cases were to be argued during the two-week session beginning April 20, including one of the most important of the term — a challenge to the current system used for electing the president. The court was to decide whether presidential electors must vote for the candidate who won the popular vote in their states or whether they are free agents.”

in October will likely be put off. That allows the GOP to hide their plans to destroy Obamacare during the campaign.

We're in the middle of a Pandemic- a public health care crisis- and the Republicans AFAIK haven't reversed course on eliminating ACA, or even re-opening the Exchanges. This, more than anything, should justify its continued existance, let alone expanding it into a more comprehensive system.

in the last weeks of the election. Now there will be a backlog. Low information voters will have no way of being informed on it. Arguments before the Supreme Courts would have made it into their bubble. I keep narratives separate as a dyslexic. It means i look at issues separately then put them together in a big picture later. I was thinking obamacare and the supreme court here and not the covid crisis. I do think COVID crisis will grow the desire for healthcare for all. Sorry that is partiallt political too. Again i do not mean to belittle the COVID suffereing when i talk like that.

This will have an effect on next years court because these 9 cases will be added to the docket which means 9 less cases in other areas. They only do a certain number a year and it isn’t a whole lot.

Oral arguments are not required for the SC to give a decision on a case. Many people have argued that oral arguments are worthless because the court knows how it is going to decide a case before the arguments are even heard. Unless the court officially puts the cases over to a new term they can decide them this term if they wish.
