(CNN)Just eight US governors have decided against issuing statewide directives urging their residents to stay at home as the outbreak of the coronavirus escalates and spreads across the country, the last holdouts in the nation.
The governors, all of whom are Republican, have offered a variety of explanations for why they have not followed the lead of their colleagues from coast-to-coast -- along with countries across the world -- by ordering people to restrict their movement in hopes of slowing the pandemic.
In doing so, they've collectively ignored the stay-at-home pleas of Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation's top infectious disease expert, who said in a CNN interview: "If you look at what's going on in this country, I just don't understand why we're not doing that."

Just crank up the economy to gang buster levels and the conservatives will be rewarded at the polls. The virus should not bring America to a grinding halt. The Will of God and his Divine Provenance are all we require, he will watch over us and protect.

So if they close they will get flooded with complaints and bad polls once people realize what they did?

But SC is mostly rural ; the biggest cities are Charleston and Columbia and they're only a little over 130,000 pop. Oddly enough, the first big outbreaks were in rural communities not the two cities. I think this is all about local and state business leaders and money.
