US governors' approval ratings soar in response to COVID-19, Microsoft poll

The country has watched its governors as most of them have taken the initiative in responding to the COVID-19 pandemic. In doing so, their approval ratings have soared in such states as Washington, Ohio, New York, and California, according to a new survey by Microsoft News and Microsoft Research.

The poll of 3,000 Americans, taken March 21-April 1, found governors with an average approval rating of 72%; "significantly higher" by 27 points than the 45% thumbs up given to President Trump. In an ABC News-Ipsos poll released Friday, Trump received a 47% approval mark for his handling of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The top approval ratings, in Microsoft's survey, went to Republican governors in Maryland and Ohio, who have both been pro-active in banning large meetings, closing schools, delivering stay-at-home orders and issuing blunt warnings of potential coronavirus impacts. Gov. Larry Hogan of Maryland received an 84% approval rating and Gov. Mike DeWine of Ohio came in with an 83% rating. Approval for Trump was just 33% in Maryland, and 49% in Ohio.

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, whose state is the epicenter of the U.S. coronavirus pandemic, came in at 81%. Cuomo has delivered daily briefings, telecast nationally, which have ranged from health experts' warnings to appeals for ventilators, to exchanges with his little brother, CNN pundit Chris Cuomo, who has tested positive and is sick with the virus.

And polling will only get better for all Democrats for THEIR response. Here where I am Abbott has dragged his feet , offered NY no ventilators , or increased testing until recently, and he refuses to give out any of his rainy day slush fund to the people in their greatest time of need. Abbott also has stopped release of people locked up that are no longer a threat if released . Abbott's a joke here in Texas. Some other of these red state governors dragging their feet on this will regret their refusals to act sooner. The numbers will prove who acted out early was a lot more successful, while those under republicans didn't do well because of their lack of response to it in a timely manor. Governor Cuomo has been remarkable with handling his situation, as well as Governor Newsom in Ca. and others , while trump has Jared and Mnuchin , and ivankie , all worthless involved, and not able to help, just like trump . Worthless.

Illinois has been wonderful. Daily updates, no holds barred about tRump's lack of leadership. I agree Cuomo and Newsome have been terrific in leadership and caring for their people.

The gop picks the WORST representatives, from the top (tRump) down. They are probably upset that Pritzker is a multimillionaire, but a DEMOCRATIC rep. How could he be so disloyal? Rauner made one hell of a mess, J.B. is cleaning that up.
