"are you a doctor" "no, but I slept at a Holiday Inn Last Night"....

This is what we have come to. We have a holiday inn president who "knows best", abetted by the mole named "Kushner" who thinks he knows better, supported by a whole cult of ignoramuses and/or lemmings who thing they know better. Know better than well educated professionals. They know better because they don't like what the professionals are saying. They are so thin skinned, and so wrapped up in the cult of trump, that anyone who says anything in disagreement with the orange rectum must be wrong.

I worked in Pharma for 25 years, and I have degrees in biology and chemistry (and I didn't sleep in a Holiday Inn last night). Drugs - medicines - are complex, work differently in different people because we all have slightly different genetics - what we put into our bodies are metabolized slightly differently, we have slightly different receptors.

One big eye opener in my years of Pharma (which I didn't uniformly love - there were issues - but that's not for this post), is learning that when companies get medicines approved, lots of statistics are used to evaluate the clinical trials. Often a medicine has very minor impacts - stats are used to highlight those advantages. Often, side effects become very serious. But no medicine works as advertised on everyone. Not only does it take years and lots of money to figure all of this out (clinical trials are costly), but drugs are not compared to best in class - they are compared to placebo. That is a pretty big topic in itself that I won't go into.

But having a raving lunatic push a substance that is not tested rigorously can only lead to disaster. It very well may work in some (the key word is some) - but certainly not all. Some will get even more ill from side effects.

The additional major issue in this is the inevitable propaganda - the few positive outcomes (if indeed there are any) will be pushed by propagandists, and spread by media that is not particularly sophisticated and bright, and we will get endless "see? he DOES know best - and those Democrats just want us to die".

Get ready for lots of spin coming out of the COVID crisis. We have few politicians, and even less media, willing to cut through the bullshit. People will die - people are dying - and the party responsible for it has a damn good chance of continuing its murder, led by a damaged monster who should not be within a light year of the presidency.

We have a holiday inn president supported by holiday in republicans, adored by a short attention span cult who believe everything positive that they read about their hero, and nothing from those who actually learned something in school and deserve respect that they do not receive.

These are shitty times indeed.

I take issue with THIS comment:

"We have few politicians, and even less media, willing to cut through the bullshit. "

I believe it to be the opposite. While Faux Spews may simply fall into lock-step with the entire RepubliCon party, following the idiotic lead of IQ45 himself, I also believe we do have a good number of dedicated media people that are trying to dig into the mud, dirt, and lies presented daily.

Other than Romney's single vote against one of the charges in the Impeachment Trial, can you name ONE RepubliCon that has come out with a serious condemnation against this mis-administration? Oh, Susan Collins' "seriously worded letters" do not count!

To watch him say these things, being fully aware that he knows fuck-all about ANYTHING, while trying to convince people that he is the foremost expert on EVERYTHING. He is a psychopath.

this drug(s) is irresponsible and almost criminal. Any other president would defer to experts on such issues, rather than repeatedly expressing his own ill informed opinion.

This is right up there with "raking the forest floor", except there are people who are actually taking him seriously, which could have dire consequences. No one went out and started raking forests after his ignorant remarks, but people are seeking and using an unproven drug, because the "President" advocates it. How many lives will be lost because of this man's incompetence, arrogance, and ignorance?

This was bound to happen (not the pandemic per se but the country's decline in its standing in the world) since for decades now there has been a shift towards anti-intellectualism and idolizing celebrity. The ignorant ones have somehow decided that they're the smart ones and know best. Having internet access emboldens them to think they are smarter than they are.

Those of us old enough to remember the Kennedy era remember a time when citizens valued those with experience and education and wanted those people to be in charge. Now a vast majority of citizens think, "he'd be fun to have a beer with" or "he tells it like it is" or "he played great movie roles". It's pretty disheartening to me to say the least.

President Kennedy was hosting a dinner at the White House. The guests of honor were recent Nobel Prize winners.
This quote supposedly came while he was speaking to the honored guests:

“I think this is the most extraordinary collection of talent, of human knowledge, that has ever been gathered together at the White House — with the possible exception of when Thomas Jefferson dined alone.”

Boy, talk about how things change!

not abandoned by PRESIDENT and Mrs. OBAMA. Among many notable guests through their 8 years in the White House was Ellis Marsalis, noted jazz musician who we recently lost (age 85) to the COVID-19 pandemic.

My son, who's a fairly decent jazz saxophonist, met Branford one time and my son had him autograph one of his saxophones. That was probably fifteen years ago but he still has the black magic marker signature on it.

I live in the town where Kid Rock is from and I wouldn't walk across the street to see him.

We have a "level 2" show theater in the area (not "top-shelf" guests, usually "used-to-be-top-shelf&quot and they had booked Ted Spewgent for a show. I considered going to "protest & picket" - but decided he wasn't worth my time!

Without offering a single reason why he won’t wear a mask, he undercut the health professionals right in front of their eyes and ours. I just wanted to scream at the tv when he did that, but I’ve nearly screamed myself hoarse, so just bit my lip instead and gritted my teeth.

Why we continue to accept the daily the sh*t shows from this moron is anyone’s guess. I wish I could be alive a hundred years from now to see how history treats this debacle. We are being bamboozled daily and no one seems willing or able to stop the monster who is pillaging and plundering the village. Now there is another reason to scream in frustration. 😢😵😢
