I just cut my own hair for the first time ever, I was nervous.

Everybody knows whenever you do something the first time you have no idea what the hell you are doing.

I bought a hair cutting kit and followed the instructions. The best advise they gave was to go slow and cut off very little hair until you figure out what the hell you are doing. I did that and my trim came out pretty good.

I was worried about the top of my hair because it's layered back. I just cut it the way my barber always did. Pull the hair up between your fingers and just cut a little off of the ends with the scissors, front to back.

Of course I did not do as good of job as my barber, but all in all it came out pretty good.

If you cut your own hair, Go slow, cut off a little at a time.

On my agenda for today. Buzz cut. Pretty simple. Don't even use a mirror. Just zoop, zoop, zoop. Midnight Writer Apr 2020 #17

faster, works fine. I'm not worrying too much about how it looks. Been on tight financial leash for a while.

Hard to find a real barber anymore anyway.

It's not the length that will bother me but the brown/grey stripe down the middle. Luckily for me my hair grows slow, and right now it's not bad at all, but in a few weeks it will be a freak show. When I did my own dye job in the past it looked bad because my hair is normally shoulder length and the ends are really dry so it doesn't absorb at the same rate as the roots. My hair always looked 2 toned and that's why I started going to a hairdresser. Not sure which way I will turn, au naturel with the stripe or try doing it myself again?

about six months ago, so I'm beyond the stripe, but definitely the two tone look.
It's gonna be a thing.

I have curly hair, but I had no idea the coloring would be so bad ass —silver and light brown in front, fading to a darker brown in the back. it photographs almost blond.

I’d pay to have this done.

My Mom grayed like this, her curly hair was almost black, and she went silver around the face first, then as she grew older, it slowly crept to the back.

I'm not going to get it "short", like it is just after leaving Great Clips, but this is a delicate operation. 😁

small stuff..just clean up on neck with an electric trimmer..but now..he is going to grow it long..we'll see...

Just a quick funny story..one day I used his electric razor just to cut my already short hair, the trimmer has a plastic cap over the blades..so I took the plastic cap off and proceeded to cut the sides and over my ears..(short hair, easy peasy)..well, the next morning he came out from his morning shave, shower, and stood in front of me..

"Ya, so, what's up"..I say, he just stood there, and then said "notice anything?" "What", I say again - then, OMG...evidently I forgot to put the plastic cap over the blades..he trimmed one of his eyebrows..(she tried to say through tears of laughter) ,,OMG, Mr. one eyebrow - he has told this story many times..just thought I would share something funny...

15 years. I use my own vacuum cleaner not the over priced one on the web site. When I'm done I use a razor on the back of my neck and a mirror. Easy peasy. It has paid for it self many times over.. YMMV

Not like bald, but sheared down to an inch or so. My hair is shoulder length and it was fine when I could go to the salon and have a professional hairdresser make it look nice. I've really let it get too long for my age.

I can't do too much brushing on my own with my medical limitations so right now it really looks like a rats nest of snarls and tangles. I've been putting it up in a scrunchy but I think it's time to just get rid of it all and get down to a length I can manage on my own.

I'm thinking electric clippers would be the right way to go, but where do I start? Any experienced people out there to walk me through the right way to cut off my hair without looking like I have mange?

My mom always cut my hair when I was a kid. When I was about 18, I started cutting my own hair. I would either use the quarter inch guard on clippers, or I would just put my hand in my hair and cut off whatever stuck out above my fingers. Now that I'm just about completely bald on top, I just clipper it really close. I keep warning my family that once I'm too old to work, I'm growing a skullet (bald on top, long on sides and back).
