Please explain to me why we subsidize by making tax exempt etc. organized efforts to spread mental illness. This is far past the pale of religious freedom.

“Gov. DeWine is a strong supporter of the First Amendment, and the religious gathering exception is one of several First Amendment exceptions in the order. However, the governor’s strong advice regarding larger gatherings he gave yesterday remains,” said DeWine spokesman Dan Tierney.

On Wednesday, DeWine offered a strong rebuke to churches like Solid Rock Church that are continuing to meet. He said religious leaders gathering their members are endangering their families and strangers.

Any pastor who brings people together in close proximity to each other, a large group of people, is making a huge mistake,” DeWine said. “It is not a Christian thing to do. It’s not in the Judeo-Christian tradition to hurt people.

It's one of the few differences I have with what he has done - I don't think he should have exempted churches. He is probably influenced by his idiot attorney general Yost, who is busy hunting down abortion clinics and planned parenthood. I suspect he doesn't feel his AG would be willing to enforce the order against churches, and he is probably right. (I don't believe I have yet seen Yost at the daily press conferences, a notable absence in an otherwise united by science front. That said, as long as he has, I am glad that he is being blunt about what he thinks about it.

objector (he couldn't believe the things they taught him and turn around and kill other human beings)

Bread for the World is a Methodist group
American Friends Service Committee (awarded a Nobel Peace Prize) is Quaker

There are other examples.

That said, I agree that a lot of harm has been done in the name of religion. Most of us who have a strong faith tradition would argue that the harm is done by misguided people who are following human self-interest, not God, Christ, Buddah, etc. Particularly since many who are religious don't condemn things done in the name of religion, I'm glad to see a state leader who publically associates himself with the Christian faith calling out churches who are actively causing harm as acting inconsistently with Christian values.

DeWine hired a doctor into the position (that has not been held by a doctor in recent years) expressly because he has made policy mistakes in the past because he didn't have enough information, and he hired her without regard to party affiliation.

Sorry you can't see past political affiliation, in the same way DeWine did when he hired Obama organizer as the head of the Department of Health.

This red-blue crap will kill us - we need to be supporting decisions that are good for surviving this pandemic and condemning decisions that make it worse - regardless of the political affiliation of the politician making the decision.

I cannot imagine circumstances under which I would vote for DeWine.

But - as to this crisis, he has been a true leader. Which is largely my point. We ought to be encouraging informed, proactive practices on the part of elected leaders (regardless of political affiliation) who are taking the steps necessary to properly serve their states (and surrounding states - one of the things DeWine is also doing is actively coordinating with the governors of all contiguous states to allocate medical resources where they are needed the most - rather than worrying about whether somone who needs help is on the "right" side of the border).

Then I read what the red states are doing & I think 18 months is optimistic. I read that South Korea's numbers started to tick back up when they eased restrictions. This is some serious shit & we have a bunch of gullible imbeciles increasing the risk for all of us.
