Sarge's is my favorite Manhattan restaurant. Its motto is "We Never Close." It was started by a retired NYPD officer who hated the fact that he couldn't get a decent meal when he was working nights, so he decided to start one of the first New York restaurants to operate 24/7.
Well...imagine my shock to find this in my inbox this morning:
This is a tough message to write just as it was a tough (but necessary) decision to make.
Starting this Monday (April 6th) we'll be closing our doors for a little while to ensure the safety of our employees and our community.
If You're Nearby Our Deli On Monday...
We'll be donating what food we cannot keep. If you're on the front-lines, especially in the medical profession, first-responders, etc. please drop by our Deli on 3rd Avenue. Give Steve a ring on Monday prior to coming so everything can be prepped.
We will of course let you know when we plan to be back. Until then, please stay safe, sane, & healthy NYC.
We love this city and cannot wait to serve you our delicious food soon,
The Sarge's Deli Family

(25,848 posts)I hope not. I hope they all closed except for carry-out or delivery several weeks ago.

(50,555 posts)I assume a lot of restaurants are still open in NYC for take-out/delivery only, since a lot of people get all their food from them. (It is REALLY expensive to cook in NYC.)

(675 posts)lives around the corner from Sarges. We visit them every June and have enjoyed many GREAT meals at Sarges. Their cold chicken salad platter on a warm June afternoon is like heaven to me. Hope they reopen soon. Our June trip to NYC is probably a no-go this year.

(50,555 posts)I would probably eat three meals a day at Sarges, and Id weigh 500 pounds by the end of the year.
