Some Swedish hospitals cutting back on chloroquine tests after side effects

Not sure if it was an official 'trial', but their hospitals are rethinking - machine translations:

Chloroquine has been given to covid-19 in several hospitals in Sweden. But last week, all hospitals in the Västra Götaland region stopped medicine.

- There were reports of suspected more serious side effects than we first thought. We cannot rule out serious side effects, especially from the heart, and it is a hard-dosed drug. In addition, we have no strong evidence that chloroquine has an effect at covid-19, says Magnus Gisslén, professor and chief physician at the infection clinic at Sahlgrenska University Hospital, to the Gothenburg Post .
...
In an email to Expressen, Hedvig Glans, section manager of the infection unit at Karolinska University Hospital, writes that chloroquine was given to the more oxygen-demanding corona patients and that a thorough investigation was done before the drug was used.

Furthermore, Hedvig Glans writes that the use of chloroquine has decreased.

"By following developments, the scientific compilations and studies in progress, the use of chloroquine phosphate is being re-evaluated daily, and this has currently been greatly reduced and is not used routinely." , writes Hedvig Glans.

Sahlgrenska stops treatment with malaria medication against covid-19

- We did like everyone else and gave chloroquine to the patients in the beginning. There were test tube studies that showed that it had an effect on coronavirus and it was a drug we knew from the treatment of malaria, says Magnus Gisslén, professor and chief physician at the infection clinic at Sahlgrenska University Hospital / Östra.

But now he has made a complete reversal. Last week, all treatment with chloroquine was stopped against covid-19 in Sahlgrenska.

- There were reports of suspected more serious side effects than we first thought. We cannot rule out serious side effects, especially from the heart, and it is a hard-dosed drug. In addition, we have no strong evidence that chloroquine has an effect on covid-19.
...
All hospitals in the Västra Götaland region follow Sahlgrenska's example. But they are still quite lonely so far. Chloroquine is still given at the major hospitals in Stockholm.

I would never use it if trump suggested it because he's never been right on anything. Could someone later sue him for promoting it? Why would anyone take advise from a corrupt serial liar as stupid as trump is.

took 1.2 million dollars from Novartis, just to get influence to Trump. Looks like that 1.2 million is paying off.

Maybe those people who are having side effects are being thrown out of the study to skew the results more favorably? Oh wait, the study isn't being done in Trump's America.

I have an autoimmune disorder, not bad enough yet to need something like a heavy-duty drug like hcq (Plaquenil). Back in February I'd heard about this drug for COVID, though, and out of curiosity checked Amazon ( ). Basic forms of it were in veterinary medicines, but I'm a huge admirer of clinical testing and not a chance.

At that time I had checked side effects also, which would presumably be different for short-term use than long-term. A little unpleasant for most, for others genuine potential killers. It's being tested for efficacy and dosages, of course.

Queen Elizabeth: If we remain united and resolute....the attributes of self discipline, of quiet good humor and resolve and of fellow-feeling...

No matter how you slice it, Trump's a potentially murderous idiot who needs to be muzzled and leashed. "What do we have to lose." But most of us do have those attributes. My going-on-80 husband wants a complete lock-down, no leaving home even for bread, for two weeks and then reassess.

Okay. Quiet good humor and resolve. We do that anyway.

And his common sense says that if he wants to win the election he'd better get the economy going again. Chloroquine is the "magic bullet" he spent hawking at the press conference. It doesn't matter if it works, what matters is that people think it works. If researchers get just a couple of results that could arguably be positive, that's all Fat Donnie needs to run his snake oil scam on the American public, most who are on the verge of financial ruin. If he can sell Trump University to people who aren't under any urgency to act, he won't have any problem getting enough desperate people convinced that he -- and only he -- has found the miracle cure which will solve all their problems, including being quarantined.

Of course, this only works if Dr. Fauci is kicked off the task force and his reputation is destroyed by the right wing media and other Trump sycophants.
