General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI posted a little rant on FB just to see who would comment.
This is the essence of it.
The surgeon general made a statement on Fox about how many people die each year from smoking related illnesses. He was comparing it to the number who are dying from the virus.
No one taking care of a lung cancer or COPD patient caught that illness from the patient. No one dies from caring for such patients. This is huge false equivalent and he should know that.
My mother died from lung cancer from second hand smoke...she never smoked. My father did for the 19 years they were married before he died. She was also a public school teacher...teacher's lounges were smoke pits. No one got lung cancer while taking care of her.
Most comments I have gotten say he knows it is a wrong to say but is either protecting his job or just doing what Trump says....both are unethical. That is not what you want in a doctor.
After I posted it, I went outside and did yard work....weed eating around the blueberry bushes, the cherry trees and just in general. It was good.

(23,083 posts)I usually go to the big box store for more caladiums by now, but not this year. Yes, Home Depot and Lowes are open, but people are flocking there for something to do and there's too many of them for me to feel safe with no gloves or mask. Next project - trying to make a no-sew mask for my therapist trip tomorrow.

(6,926 posts)They are easy, I made several. Remember, any mask is HOT. Breathing through any material is no fun. Do not put it on until you are getting out of the car, take it off as soon as you get away from people and wash it when you get home.

(23,083 posts)I ordered some double sided bandanas but they aren't due here until a few days. I will be using an old t-shirt & attempt to make 2 today.
I had masks for my allergies but after cutting down all my ligustrums I didn't need them anymore and threw out about 40 a few years ago - damn it. I quit wearing them as soon as they weren't a necessity because I live in FL where it's usually hot and these made me sweat and fogged my glasses at times. I would love to have them now to use just as you state, but will be using the DIY versions instead - hopefully!

(6,926 posts)fogging was a real problem. Good luck with your project.

(6,926 posts)They have been prolific. We have had friends come and pick, share some with coworkers when we were still working and had plenty for ourselves. This year we did major pruning and mulched again. They look great this year and we will share again.
Eating as you pick them is essential. One year we had a very late freeze while there will still blooms. We had 3 berries that year. We each ate one.
We also have two younger smaller bushes we bought. One is very early and has visible berries now. We will eat them immediately as they get ripe. You feel so righteous eating blueberries.
