U.S. Navy chief fired over handling of SEAL saga involving Trump
"U.S. Defense Secretary Mark Esper fired the Navys top civilian on Sunday over his handling of the case of a Navy SEAL who was convicted of battlefield misconduct in Iraq and later won the support of President Donald Trump.
Esper also determined that the sailor in question, Special Operations Chief Edward Gallagher, should be allowed to retain his Trident pin designating him as a SEAL - effectively ending the Navys efforts to carry out a peer review that could have ousted him from the elite force.
Trump, who publicly opposed taking away Gallaghers Trident pin and had intervened in the case to restore his rank, cheered the moves.
The fired Navy Secretary Richard Spencer last week suggested a possible split with Trump by telling Reuters that Gallagher should still face a peer review board.

Trump Is Picking a Losing Fight With the Navy
The political scientist Richard Neustadt warned presidents a long time ago that governing by command by giving orders, rather than bargaining and earning support is dangerous. It tends to impose enormous costs, often only distantly connected to the presidents original action.
Sometimes, however, its a lot simpler than that. President Donald Trump hardly needs to be fighting another battle right now, but he seems to have created one for himself:
The Navy SEAL at the center of a high-profile war crimes case has been ordered to appear before Navy leaders Wednesday morning, and is expected to be notified that the Navy intends to oust him from the elite commando force, two Navy officials said on Tuesday.
The move could put the SEAL commander, Rear Adm. Collin Green, in direct conflict with President Trump, who last week cleared the sailor, Chief Petty Officer Edward Gallagher, of any judicial punishment in the war crimes case. Military leaders opposed that action as well as Mr. Trumps pardons of two soldiers involved in other murder cases.

Sailors cheer Navy captain who was removed after pleading for help with coronavirus outbreak
Sailors on the USS Theodore Roosevelt cheered for their departing captain Thursday night as he was removed from duty.
Videos captured on social media and sites like Stars and Stripes show sailors shouting "Captain Crozier" for Capt. Brett Crozier as he left the ship.
Crozier was removed from duty after a letter he wrote pleading for help for those onboard his ship who are infected with the coronavirus leaked to the media.
The Navy announced his removal on Thursday. According to Navy Secretary Thomas Modly, whether Crozier intentionally leaked the letter or not, he "did not take care" to ensure it was not leaked.
