From a GoFundMe plea posted on Friday:
With deep sadness and Broken Hearts we share with you that (omitted) a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend to all that knew her, went to be with our Lord when she passed away unexpectedly Thursday April 2,2020. (Omitted) became very sick and was admitted to the hospital near her home in Tomball Tx earlier this week. She fought hard until her body just could not fight anymore. (omitted) was a BRIGHT LIGHT, the LIFE of the party, an amazing friend, but above this a hands on, caring, loving mom and devoted wife.
From her facebook post two weeks before passing:

I can't see complaining when people talk crap about the south or NC, especially in recent years, because we do spawn some of the worst Republicans out there. I can't complain when they are doing that because it is just true. We really DO spawn some of the most horrid Republicans. We also have lots of Democrats here too, but we cannot overpower the math. Math is math. We are outnumbered and surrounded by idiot Republicans.

(2,980 posts)the place where I actually grew up-- Bakersfield, CA-- is also roundly mocked. (Including by me!) But to be fair, the place I've lived the last 40 years-- San Francisco-- is constantly trashed, too ("fruits, flakes, nuts", etc.)... just by a different set of mockers. When my (then) 16-year-old daughter was on an Alaskan cruise with her grandmother last year, a woman from Florida felt compelled to tell her she felt so sorry that my daughter had to live in SF. (The most outspoken people seem to have the least sense--and common decency--and my daughter was too polite to respond in kind.)
Speaking of my daughter, she was recently accepted at Wake Forest. Probably will stay in CA for college (since we've never even visited any of the East Coast colleges she got into, and that's impossible now), but any impressions? The college itself seems very cool, but the student body doesn't seem very diverse... and maybe somewhat conservative?

I know. I'm probably going to hell for that joke, but there is way more than a grain of truth to it in many states, even here in NC. Far more.

(62,444 posts)It's like people in some states think they are in a Beach Boys song, and the state they live in is some part of their personality.
I happen to have been born here and grew up here, but jeez, we all thought this was a riot:
I wish they'd change the motto to "Delaware Sucks, Stay the Fuck Out!", so there'd be better parking at the beaches.
I like what I've seen of Vermont. Been to Rutland three times (trips to Killington) and stopped in some town that had a big tower commemorating something or other. I dunno, maybe it was New Hampshire.

In answer to my question about where the Hell that came from, I got:

Damned Yankees are anyone from the north who moves to the south
God Damned Yankees are Damned Yankees who stay.
The gulf coast from Freeport to Palacios and inland 40 miles made home look damned good
It is unclear if my return to Kansas after 7 years reset my status to Yankee or I am forevermore a damned Yankee.

(17,757 posts)It was a joke, son.
You may as well join in on bashing my home state of Florida, you won't hear me whine.
I do have a reason to not like Texans. I drove Interstate-10, in Florida, for a hundred miles a day, for ten years. Anytime someone was driving a pickup truck from Texas, (which was every day) you could depend on them driving like a jerk. Before you could see the tag, the joke between my wife and I was not whether the vehicle would have Texas plates, that was a given, but what part of Texas he was from. There is nothing on the highways like the combination of a King Ranch Truck and Texas plates. The only thing that made them worse was when they were pulling a horse trailer. Most of the time, it would have been better to let the horses drive.
Now, I know that this is anecdotal, and I am reasonably sure, that there must be a few people in the state that can drive, but you can bet your spurs they are from somewhere else.

(62,444 posts)I live in Delaware, have at it:
But, damn, I visited Texas once and it's like they have to remind themselves and visitors every five minutes that you're in TEXAS!!!
I mean, it was like 500 miles to the nearest other state, but every damned thing had to have a state flag slapped on it. It's like they go around patting themselves on the back for just being in it.

State bashing is wrong. Many great people, many good Democrats live in Texas.
And other red states. Your broad brush is indiscriminately smearing good people.
Parts of the landscape are bleak, others are beautiful.
Please share what state you live in. Most folks I ask this don't reply.
I predict you won't either.

The reason I bring it up is because I have always been under the impression that you couldn't just ask for anything and open a GoFundMe page to rake in cash.
I haven't found any major news outlets telling this story either though. So, it is a good idea to be skeptical of this.
