Over the weekend, the White House coronavirus task force said Americans should try to avoid the grocery store and pharmacy over the next two weeks as the outbreak is expected to get worse.
The NY Post reported on Saturday, White House coronavirus response coordinator Deborah Birx said at a press conference that over the next two weeks Americans need to be careful.
This is the moment to not be going to the grocery store, not going to the pharmacy, but doing everything you can to keep your family and your friends safe, Birx said, according to the Post.
The number of people infected in the U.S. has exceeded 300,000, with the death toll climbing past 8,400; more than 3,500 of those deaths are in the state of New York. For most people, the virus causes mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough that clear up in two to three weeks. For some, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, it can cause more severe illness, including pneumonia, and death.

(11,495 posts)no TP in Walmart, no TP in Safeway. Every time the make stupid remarks, the first thing people go out and buy seems to be TP!
Other than no TP, we found most everything on the list.

Since the NY Post is owned by News Corporation, i.e. R. Murdoch (38% Murdoch family voting power), they should also advise their beloved Red States as well. Blue States are aware of the reality.

(14,012 posts)I get plenty of customers who come in for nothing but candy. Some "just need to get out of the house", and futz around because we're open while most businesses are not.
If I'm to become ill or die from this pandemic, I'd rather go down selling a thermometer (if we could get any) than fucking Easter candy and plastic eggs.
There's a drive-up window at most pharmacies. Better to use them than to walk in and sit around.
Most people are poorly equipped for survival, it seems. If you need something, get it and get the fuck out. If you want something, go without for a while.

(13,360 posts)seriously,
anyone who can get groceries delivered or afford to buy in bulk are the ones who can do this. I have to scavenge and make small trips as I have only a little bit here & there from what I can borrow and little trickles of disability and child support.
Also just got a text 2 days ago that my standing monthly refills are waiting...
every time i have to go on a "run" I know I am taking my life in my hands, but what else to do?
this shit is getting real more by the day and I am trying not to freak out.
the damn "stimulus" check would be nice cuz then I could maybe plan ahead a bit more and stock up...not to mention the bills are coming due and I'm worried about that too.
