On Pandemics: President George W. Bush in 2005

El Presidente Troomperer is so fixated on Obama, but Dubya had some poignant words that apply most certainly now:

President George W. Bush in 2005: "There is no pandemic flu in our country or in the world at this time. But if we wait for a pandemic to appear, it will be too late to prepare. And one day many lives could be needlessly lost because we failed to act today."

No kidding. Hmmm. Really? Failed to act? Many lives, huh? Too late to prepare. Check! Troomperer has it covered.

to pave the way for Trump?

I'm sorry, but I am not going to accept the normalization of George W. Bush. He bears his own responsibility here.

I am sorry if you took it that way.

This is about the recognition there has been of the threat of such a global pandemic, regardless of who said it. There are numerous accounts and warnings that have been made for a long time that have gone unheeded and Trump has sealed the deal as we see.

And I agree with you on those points, of course.

Back in 2005, that post would have probably gotten deleted or gotten you banned.

In 2035, there will be posts no doubt praising Trump on some random issue of the day, while we take to task the new horrible president.

It's just amazing isn't? Bush looks good and wise next to Trump.

The eventual Republican that comes after Trump should scare us all.

Yes, the contrast is alarming. That's another good and related point here.

I used to think of Dubya an inept, frat boy and the worst President to date. One of the reasons was it was clear he was not the "brains" in the operation, but more like a Howdy Doody puppet for show in many cases.

Now, the worst is much worse than I could have imagined back then.

That captures my point in posting it.

Just more evidence that it was a matter of when, not if, and there is absolutely no excuse that can be made for not acting prior to and at the onset of this pandemic. None!
