CA Pastor who refuses to cancel Sunday services because of coronavirus greeted by police

[link:https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2020-04-05/pastor-who-refuses-to-cancel-sunday-services-greeted-by-police|

On Sunday, the pastor of Cross Culture Christian Center in Lodi, Calif., was greeted by several police officers in the parking lot about an hour before he intended to hold an in-person service despite coronavirus restrictions.

Pastor Jon Duncan, whose small evangelical church leases space in Bethel Open Bible Church, arrived Sunday morning, Palm Sunday, to find that Bethel, which stopped having in-person services on March 15, had changed the locks on the building to prevent his congregants from entering, Lodi Police Lt. Michael Manetti told The Times

We closed our church building weeks ago, explained the situation to the four other congregations that meet there as well as the Head Start program that uses our basement. Not a problem at all for any of them. They understood we were taking protective measures for everyone concerned, nobody squawked about their rights, and made other arrangements. Our congregation has been meeting by Zoom (password protected so that wanking trolls can't crash the service), and we're doing just fine. Yeah, I'd like to see people in person, but it's not happening right now. This temporary state of affairs will be over, and the more precautions we take, the shorter that time will be.

All services are online for the time being.

Is his congregation too stupid to pray by themselves? You know you can sit down on a rock in the middle of a desert or a huge metropolis to pray. God doesn’t care. You don’t need a conductor.
