Couple stranded in paradise -

One thing led to another and suddenly a just married couple found themselves on an extended honeymoon in a plush resort --

...they were the only guests at their resort, the Cinnamon Velifushi Maldives, which normally is at capacity at this time of year, catering to some 180 guests. (“Room rates start at $750 a night,” its website still says.) The resort comprises the entirety of its speck of an island. There is nowhere to go. The couple reign like benign yet captive sovereigns over their islet. The days are long and lazy. They sleep in, snorkel, lounge by the pool, repeat.

the “eager” workers who are forced to keep up appearances. The article is a hot mess.

The NYT isn't known for championing workers. At least they did highlight that the workers bored and trapped, themselves.

from Bonaire in March. I was booked for two weeks for my birthday. Came home a week early--March 9th instead of 16th--because I was concerned that the airlines would stop flying. The American Airlines flight I was originally booked to come home on turned out to be the last American flight out of Bonaire.

I did think I could get stuck for at least a couple of months and didn't think it was fair to Snowy or my older son, who would have ended up probably taking her from the pet sitter where she was staying.

This is what I left

This is who I came home to

Writing this w my little furry canine son in my lap. Give Snowy some petting and kisses from his fan here in PA. Take good care of each other and stay safe and healthy!

I was supposed to travel in March...decided not to when this all started to blow up.

Not leaving my pooches if I have to worry about getting back to them.

To see what a REAL ski hill looks like. We bounced around dates, March break was suggested, I didn’t want to fight the crowds so I went last week in Feb. Stayed 12 days, got home March 3rd, and then...well, you know the rest. The resort actually shut down 2 weeks later. I consider myself very lucky to have gotten that vacation in. It might be a while before the next one...
