U.S. Is Nowhere Close to Reopening the Economy, Experts Say

WASHINGTON — How long can we keep this up?

It is still very early in the U.S. effort to snuff a lethal pandemic by shutting down much of the economy. But there is a growing question — from workers, the White House, corporate boardrooms and small businesses on the brink — that hangs over what is essentially a war effort against a virus that has already killed more than 9,000 Americans.

There is no good answer yet, in part because we don’t even have the data needed to formulate one.

Essentially, economists say, there won’t be a fully functioning economy again until people are confident that they can go about their business without a high risk of catching the coronavirus.

“Our ability to reopen the economy ultimately depends on our ability to better understand the spread and risk of the virus,” said Betsey Stevenson, a University of Michigan economist who worked on the White House Council of Economic Advisers under President Barack Obama. “It’s also quite likely that we will need to figure out how to reopen the economy with the virus remaining a threat.”

Let people die and give me more MONEY! (or let me STEAL it as I profit from this disaster - along with my billionaire and corporate friends)

THAT is his "plan". And that's all.

NO testing
NO PPE
NO ventilators
NOTHING.

Just DIE.

IF between climate change, total suspension of all EPA regulations, drastic weather events, deregulated food industry, and a global pandemic, we SURVIVE long enough to vote in November, we may not survive voting in November because MOST voters will have to GO TO POLLS to vote. Republicans are very aware of that and snickering as they refuse to do a damn thing about it - NOTE today's USSC ruling allowing Wisconsin to toss out absentee ballots received late due to COVID-19.

Republicans are ALWAYS happy to toss out votes, toss voters off of rolls, keep voters from getting on voting rolls and keep people from voting -- because they KNOW if everyone eligible is able to safely vote, Republicans will lose. If a few hundred thousand people DIE from a pandemic - so what? As long as the Republicans "win" elections. And that's something they're very good at - "winning" (albeit by cheating and suppressing votes) - but they SUCK at governing and leading.
