General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsMy wish may be coming true. Our governors are trying to create their own federal supply system and
bypassing that piece of shit in the Whitehouse. Governor Newsome was just on Maddows show talking about. He has figured out a way to get Tens of millions of masks in a way where the states don't have to compete with each other or the federal government. The states are setting up a system where they will supply each other with what is needed.
Our Governors are tired of dealing with Trump, this is great news.

(34,109 posts)and our Governor keeps asking for more. Our first shipment was not ever complete and the last 7 requests have never even been answered. She is asking Auto Body shops for masks and Tattoo stores. Our nurses have been told to make their own masks.

But I'll be nice and won't even suggest it.

(90,683 posts)That's the reason I always hesitate to endorse the notion that all the good talented Dems who are Governors and Senators should be plucked from their elective posts to become Cabinet members. We never really know who will replace them.
Could be wrong that Sibelius was one such, but I do recall the name.

I agree with you about plucking Dem Governors or Senators, it can leave a gaping hole for the R's to slither into.

(9,665 posts)That speech put her on my radar.
I don't remember for sure but I think she got tarnished for something she may or may not have had something to do with. I recall thinking that it was a media/GOP setup/hit job that did her in?
MuseRider
(34,109 posts)they found some discrepancies in her taxes. She looked at them, found that she had "unintentional mistakes" in her taxes and cleaned it up by paying what she owed.
I think she caught a lot of flack over the ACA when she was in charge of the website, seeing that it worked and was easy and it was not easy and did not work very well. It was fixed of course.
She did some good things in Kansas. She actually protected LGBT for employment harassment/discrimination for state employees but that was gone the minute ole Sam got in.
She is a nice person, never what I was wanting for a Dem governor but she comes from solid Republican stock so there is that, it certainly helped her get elected. She did some good while here.

(9,665 posts)Funny how "unintentional mistakes" on Jared's many security clearance application attempts or the perpetual fuckupedness of his FIL's administration are okay with little to no repercussion.

(10,303 posts)We know what the problem is.
Besides if there were a sudden disappearance of the US federal government, there would be a whole lot of countries/states that would find themselves turned into 3rd world countries overnight.

(5,395 posts)The federal government has pretty well disappeared as an effective organisation.
More bad news!
Lose your job, lose your health cover, catch the virus, stay home and die because that is your only option?
Now tell me the USA ISN'T a third world country already!

(21,565 posts)I was just saying to my wife yesterday that the Dem governors should form a compact with a czar to manage these resources so states at a peak can be supplied by those in a lull... because the White House has NO ONE at the switch and if the states sit around waiting for Jared "the stockpile is ours, not the states'" Kushner to get his thumb out of his ass and figure out what to do, people are going die (even more than they already are)

(3,473 posts)so Trump doesn't send in people to confiscate them.

(296 posts)When he said 200 million masks a month along with other PPE I thought of security first. You may literally have to talk of or threaten secession of western states to keep Trump and Kushner's hands off of it. They CAN nationalize supply chains, but not of other countries. Crazy, I know
Glimmer of Hope
(5,823 posts)has the resouces to do so. He has distributed hundreds of ventilators to states in need and will soon have 200 million masks to shell out too. He is getting it done.

(5,395 posts)Who would have thought that you needed to bypass the hopeless sewer pit dwellers that the Federal Government has become, to get anything effective done?
I think the answer to that is . . . the MAJORITY of Americans!
Like any large organisation - you go to the people in power, and if you get the cold shoulder from them, you seek out the people who do things without a personal agenda. Do things because they know what is right, know what needs to be done.
Hoping Trump gets the cold shoulder in November. If the virus or his health conditions don't do him in first before then.
