God, real fresh cooked food

Made by a local restaurant, not a chain, delivered by Grubhub. I've been eating frozen dinners so goddamn long.

I'm supporting my local restaurants and tipping the drivers 20 percent, because that's what we need to do. I ordered a week's wprth of Chinese food from Formosa Gardens. It's so good.

Cooking is a BASIC skill. I was taught in Home Ec in Middle School. It is not difficult to be able to create a simple meal for yourself.

Supporting local restaurants is important - but knowing how to turn ingredients into food is an absolute must for ANY homo sapien sapien.

Maybe a third of the local restaurants are closed, including our favorite Asian restaurant. We try to order from local restaurants as often as we can, because we want them to stay in business.

Blue Apron has been a godsend. We get three dinners a week from them, and the quality is excellent. It does take awhile to clean all the ingredients, but it’s still much easier than most of the alternatives.

Why are you eating like this? Did no one teach you how to cook?

I grew up VERY Italian, grandson of immigrants. We ALL cooked. Men, women, and kids. Most restaurant food is shit, porcheria, whatever...

Parents failed their children. Knowing how to cook is a life skill.

I'm in the same boat. Ordered pizza, calamari this evening tipped over 20% and the meal was heaven. I went to cooking school years ago, I'm just tired of cooking!! Been slapping meals for 1 together since February. Really it's getting harder to piece meals together because the food delivery doesn't always have what I need. They have been out of rice for weeks!

Very inexpensive too.

I know how to cook.

Tonight: Greek tomato salad with homegrown tomatoes, cucumber and onion and crumpled feta. Cukes and onion purchased. Hummus made from soaked chick peas, and 6 oz of grilled filet between us chopped up and put on the hummus. One pita each. Leftovers for me.

Less than 5 bucks each.

The only way to eat healthy and inexpensively in hard times it to learn to cook.

That said, we order take out at least once a week to help mom and pop restaurants survive.

He and his room mate in the boarding house were both just off the farm, and short of cash. But not far from their bedroom window was a walnut tree just alive with squirrels... He said the two of them ate really well all that year.

I call that resourceful.

But starting week after next we will have a greatly reduced income. Greatly. Like 70% reduced. We are being furloughed.

If you have the means to support locals I’m all for it and have always done so. We avoid chain restaurants, even high end ones.

And we are way better off than most Americans.

But we will soon be in the position to be unable to support any local restaurants. High or low end.

Maybe I hijacked your thread. And if so I sincerely apologize. But so many Americans are now in my position and have have never learned how to cook and that is bothering me.

Again, I apologize if I let my personal position to post something that offended you.

Have a nice evening

Naked, with hives to vote blue in November.

I know 3 people in my same position that voted trump last time, and one republican that sat it out, who have told me unsolicited they are vote for Biden. Floridians are pissed at our shitty small government bullshit. It will take months to get the unemployment relief we need here.

Biden is winning Florida. And Monday after next, since I’m not working I’m calling my local Democratic Party office to ask how I can help.

Stay safe. And support local as long as you are able.

Fresh supplies here in my high risk for COVID-19 household are slim pickings. There's no slots for grocery delivery, and no curbside to be found. I'm a gardener. It's pre-summer crops and post winter. I've just about used up all my cool weather greens as they're beginning to bolt, and my warm weather crops aren't bearing yet. It's that time of year here.

I'm the apex of "doing it at home" and my resources are taxed right this moment. If not for some of my winter squashes still being edible I'd be desperate right now for fresh foods, too. But, I'm fortunately able to have those. Most of the population doesn't. So, let's relax and be less ugly, ok?

Our skill sets vary, which includes those who prepare our takeout meals locally. We all have value and a place in our society. None of us are superior to the other.

Peace and love to all of you.

What we do have is a fabulous Greek place about 200 meters from our front door. However, since our 3 times weekly farmers market is still running, and my wife is a master chef, we have all the great fresh food right here at home we could ever want.

I miss Chinese, Japanese and Thai food, but my wife can do most anything else, including South Asian. Except for the Greek, anything we would order from a commercial establishment would be worse than what comes out of our kitchen.
