(16,377 posts)Are you watching it in Polish or English? The English version bothers me because the subtitles and spoken dialogue don't match up, so I switched to the original Polish. The disadvantage: I have to pay attention and can't do other stuff while watching.

Danson and Bell are at the top of their acting games. Just when I start to worry the plot will get old, they completely change it up, and a whole new angle plays out. The writing is so sharp and fast, we have to pause it to laugh so we don't miss the next zinger. (Netflix over satellite not so good at rewinding.)

(12,154 posts)I'm eagerly awaiting the next season. It's not perfect, but it's an interesting mix of space opera, political intrigue, future sociology, and well-drawn characters.
A few good ones on Netflix:
"Shetland" is great, too, if anyone hasn't seen it yet.
"River" was fantastic -- best thing I've seen in a long time, with Nicola Walker, Stellan Skarsgard, and Lesley Manville.
I enjoyed "Deadwind" also, a Finnish murder mystery for the Scandinavian Noir fans. "Trapped" (set in Iceland" was similar, but much more bleak.
I got tired of, and abandoned, both "Broadchurch" (which left me feeling completely ripped off) and "Marcella" (grim, brutal, and convoluted).
P.S. After reading about "Tiger King," it's on my "Avoid At All Costs" list.

(3,280 posts)Up here in Canada, Avatar: The Last Airbender is still on Netflix.
Other cartoons worth a watch are the new Netflix She-Ra, which is extremely entertaining. I enjoyed The Dragon Prince, as well. Great character design and a fun world with some surprising depth and some great visual gags.
Beastars was a lot of fun as well. It's a high school drama anime, but all of the characters are animal people. Think Zootopia with sex and violence. The main protagonist is an awkward grey wolf who has a deep angst about his own carnivorous desires in a world where carnivores and herbivores are trying to live together somewhat harmoniously.
Not a cartoon, but I've also been rewatching House, MD on Amazon, because Hugh Laurie is a joy and honestly pretty much everyone on that show puts in a solid and entertaining performance. The medical mysteries are fun, too.

Swedish series about family restaurant over multiple generations
Beautiful interiors and costumes, a little Downton Abbeyish with the upstairs, downstairs thing going on
Wonderful for post-war history and culture--covers rise of Democratic socialism, human trafficking, LGBQ history, women's rights, pulls in effects of the Holocaust--plus addiction, true love, music from 50's jazz forward, trends in cuisine, and so much more.
Like any family drama, it goes a little Jerry Springerish sometimes.
I just started season 2. It's with the Sundance channel so they pull you into that with a free trial period.

As good as the show is, the books are even better, and they fill in many of the background situations, people, etc. that makes watching the show that much more enjoyable.
I know I'm a gushing fangran, but I'm just sayin.... its a REALLY good show and perfect for when one is in the house with nowhere to go. Always watch opening credits, some of the shows are violent (wars) and some have some quite lusty (ahem) moments, not really suitable for children.

Especially episodes with Börne and Thiel as well as Ballauf and Schenk
Lots of nature documentaries and WWII documentaries (I never cease to be fascinated at what happened here, and luckily, they whitewash nothing).
A DVDs few favorite movies I never tire of: The Illusionist, Luftslottet som Sprängdes ("The Castle in the Air That Blew Up," English title: The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet's Nest), Avatar, The Shawshank Redemption, The Specialist
But the weather has been unusually sunny here, and we like to take walks on the woods out in back of the castle.
*oh, and what is Tiger King? A fast food chain in Bengal?

(53,951 posts)It is an alternate history genre. What is a bit terrifying is the parallels to what is currently happening now. There is a podcast which reviews each episode and it is discussed there.

(8,171 posts)This is totally popcorn TV and hilarious.
The premise is 8 people secluded in eight separate apartments intentionally ( ). They can only communicate via a social media app, can't see or hear each other and they are competing for popularity. Each day they rate each other and the top 2 most popular become influencers who vote to boot someone out of the Circle.
Lots of imposters/catfish - one of the seasons had two women friends, 75 and 78 pretending to be a 25 yo male.
If you're looking for something mindless and funny, and perhaps a reflection on some aspects of society, this is it.
(Brazil and France are both subtitled)
