Joe Farrell snagged a tenant from March through Labor Day for $2 million, making Sandcastle (at 612 Halsey Lane in Bridgehampton) the East End's priciest rental ever.Farrell Building Company

Hamptons developer Joe Farrell has found a renter for his famed property, nicknamed Sandcastle.

It was on the market for $2 million from March until Labor Day, as we previously reported — making it the most expensive East End rental ever.

Farrell tells Gimme Shelter the Bridgehampton mansion rented for close to its asking price “to a textile tycoon and his family who were stuck in Manhattan and wanted to leave the city on a day’s notice. This was a COVID situation — not a normal summer rental.”

The 11-bedroom spread — which has hosted guests like Justin Bieber, Beyoncé and Jay-Z — rented in just one day.

That meant Farrell moved out of it in a “day and a half.” He’s now in his new home — “a sick flat-roof modern” by the beach, at 51 Sa

From the maps I’ve been able to find it looks like there’s a creek running through it so maybe it can’t be developed. It could be prospective real estate or, even though most of the farm loopholes are supposedly done away with, used for tax purposes. These people can afford good accountants.

is bordered on 2 sides by marsh and wildlife preserve, as is the entire tiny neighborhood, so we have quiet and beautiful views. We have good neighbors not too close but close enough to help if needed. That manse can't be any more comfortable than ours, except for the pool I grant. But we don't need even one staffer to keep the dust from piling up, our lawn from turning into a weed lot, and the pool from turning green, much less skeleton staff of a dozen.

people out of there. We had a place in a park on saltwater, but between sea level rise, constant winds blowing my aging husband off the water too often, and my own dislike of salt in my hair all the time, we sold and moved inland to a lakes area where my husband could be out most of the time, bought this place for next to nothing. On purpose.

We're 4 feet below what used to be considered 100-year flood zone, but no more. Regular residential construction isn't allowed. Strictly speaking, this is a big bowl bounded on two sides by a river that could back up and fill it if a hurricane insisted, and much of the the marsh water is the Floridan aquifer come to the surface, plus a whole lot of sinkholes.

I'm looking at a gorgeous view right now, though, nice breezes are the norm, and my husband caught a 5-lb bass in his bathroom this morning before setting off to a nearby lake for serious fishing. And as hurricanes approach, we're hundreds of miles away wishing it well.
