I think it finally struck my family

My nephew's fiance, who is battling metastatic stomach, developed a cough and shortness of breath. She called her doc, who advised her to go to urgent care. She was only allowed to bring her cellphone and laptop, and my nephew was stopped at the door. They tested her for Covid19, but no results for 5 days. They found a blood clot in her lung. My nephew is self quarantining.

She is a lovely young woman. 34 and a high school biology teacher, working on her PHD. I'm so scared for her. And him.

This is terrifying. He's been improving these last few days and says he's coughing less.

My wife is a health care professional. My wife and I "self-quarantined" on March 17th assuming she's been exposed to patients and co-workers who have been infected. She's on the front lines of this. Alas, testing is still extremely limited and PPE in her clinic is severely rationed.

I'm on a teeter-totter worrying that I'll get infected, or worse, that I've been infected in a very mild way and that I might spread it around if I go out.

It's allergy season so I'm worrying about every cough, itchy throat, and headache when I have to go out for food and other essentials.

My family is in crisis mode today as well. My mom's nursing home has had positive tests in one direct-care staffer and one patient. During the night we got a call that mom is having difficulty breathing.

There really aren't any words to comfort your family, except for the doctor saying that everything is all good.

But my heart goes out to you and yours.

If it is, I hope it is a very mild case.

Hopefully, she recovers soon. I hope it is not this virus, and that what she does have can be treated quickly. We need all the teachers we can get.

Caught early, that is easier to fix than COVID 19. (It can still be life-threatening, but we have treatment protocols we know work.)

Once they start her on a heparin drip she should start breathing better. Hopefully that is what it is and she can then be weaned onto a blood thinner and go home. Since I have had them more than once, I have to take blood thinners the rest of my life. Even a couple days without my pill could be a death sentence for me.
