Kansas GOP leads overturn of Dem governor's limits on church, funeral attendance

A Republican-led panel of Kansas legislative leaders on Wednesday overturned an executive order by the state’s Democrat governor that called for attendance limits on church services and funerals amid the coronavirus pandemic.

GOP members of the state’s Legislative Coordinating Council, composed of House and Senate leaders, asserted that first-term Gov. Laura Kelly had overstepped her authority by issuing the order, so they blocked it in a 5-2 vote along party lines.

“It appears to be out of line, extreme and clearly in violation, a blatant violation, of our fundamental rights,” Senate president Susan Wagle, a Republican from Wichita, told the Topeka Capital-Journal.

Kelly had announced Tuesday that church services and funerals would no longer be exempted from a state order limiting gatherings to 10 people, the newspaper reported.

Their preachers are going to use the Kenneth Copeland solution and blow the virus away I guess.

My sympathies and good luck to y'all in Kansas. I am glad that the GO-Pee is looking out for your assets that they want. A little pro-life goes a long way. Hint: If you are reading this, you are NOT a fetus. I repeat, NOT a fetus.

Have you folks considered finding someone wholesome and intelligent like Charles Manson or Hannibal Lecter lead y'all? That's probably an upgrade over sharks, and bottom feeders.

Flu Epidemic of 1918

This monument at Fort Riley was built for Sanitary Train soldiers who died during the flu epidemicIn 1918 the United States was involved in World War I, but was also dealing with the outbreak of a deadly influenza epidemic. The first cases of the outbreak were recorded in Haskell County, Kansas, and Fort Riley, Kansas, where young men were being hospitalized for severe flu-like symptoms. A local doctor sent a report to the Public Health Service, but no one was sent to investigate the situation. On March 4, 1918, an outbreak appeared at Fort Riley, with as many as 500 soldiers hospitalized within a week. Within a month, however, the number of patients dwindled and it seemed that the flu had passed its course. Many of these soldiers were sent to Europe to help fight in World War I. While in Europe the disease mutated and became deadly. By May many reports of soldiers falling ill were reaching the U.S. It did not take long for the disease to spread from the soldiers to the civilian population of Europe, and then around the world. Few areas remained unaffected, and there were recorded outbreaks in Asia, Africa, Europe, North and South America, as well as the Arctic and remote Pacific Islands.

The outbreak of 1918 was named the Spanish influenza.
