The money goes to elect his opponent Amy McGrath who is trailing him by 1% in the latest polls.

(23,568 posts)because when I tried to look it up a different way I didn't find the 350% matching donation.
After you paid it went to another page that said if you immediately donated again it would match at 500%
Someone must be donating big to cover all this.

(5,555 posts)...I tried at least 3 times to donate, and was unable to complete the process.
Don't know what happened?

(1,325 posts)I didn't know that. After I heard about the shenanigans he pulled today trying to push through a bill with no input from Democrats, I went straight to her website to donate.

(3,871 posts)There are other candidates in critical races that also need funding. Everyone wants to Beat Mitch but it seems that 350% match could better help some other candidates who don't have the fundraising power that Mcgrath has. She raised $13M this quarter to Mitch's $7.5M and hasn't even won the primary yet. I've never send a 350% match before from Acct Blue.

(60,436 posts)And a 3½ time matching donor sounds incredibly weird. I'd like some more verification.
As for Act Blue, they used to play around with my credit card, changed donations that I specified as one-time into monthly without my consent, and flagged my donations repeatedly for "review." Plus, they grab 3.95% of all donations for themselves for "operating fees." They're strictly online, for Pete's sake! Even Mastercard takes less than 3.95% from the merchants I buy from, and they still give me a refund at the end of the year. For every million dollars donated to Democratic causes, Act Blue keeps $39,500. Now, I hope billions are donated to Democratic causes, but for every billion donated, Act Blue keeps $39.5 million. Nice gig if you can get it, and they DON'T give refunds.
Call me old fashioned, but I still send checks drawn on my U.S. account. That way, whoever I donate to keeps it all. It costs me 1.10 for the postage stamp.

(12,597 posts)Hubby's been after me for days to donate so we can clock McConnell and help McGrath.
He'll be happy. So am I at the very thought of it.

Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
