As the coronavirus spreads in Japan, the chief executive of the Tokyo Games said Friday he can’t guarantee the postponed Olympics will be staged next year — even with the long delay.

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe issued an emergency declaration this week to battle the virus, putting the country under restrictions after it seemed it had avoided the spread.

by next July or not," Tokyo organizing committee CEO Toshiro Muto said, speaking through an interpreter at a news conference conducted remotely. ”We're certainly are not in a position to give you a clear answer."

Imo, his statement is wise & really, until a vaccine is provided to all, the only responsible thing he can say.

The IOC had to make a decision about the games but he had to make a decision on behalf of his citizens. He failed big time because he put the country's investment in the games above his people.

Given that the All England Tennis Club and the St Andrew Golf folks both had pandemic insurance, we really need to ask why the IOC and Sports Federations didn't have similar insurance.

IMO, what he did was highly dishonorable & should be ousted.

Good question about the insurance piece. Sorry I have no insight there.
