What other entities or corporations are required to fully fund their pension obligations seventy five years in advance?
Besides the Post Office?
I cannot comprehend any enterprise accumulating so much cash just to have it lay dormant for three quarters of a CENTURY?
To me "privatization" simply means corrupt crony capitalism and a handful of greedy sociopaths suddenly doubling the price of their goods or services simply because they can?
Gov't IS NOT A BUSINESS AND SHOULD NOT BE RUN LIKE ONE.
And I would not be surprised if the republics are currently fashioning legislation to make the U.S. Armed Forces become a PROFIT MAKING ENTERPRISE. Would be nice to "shock and awe" the Saudi Royal Family into turning over all their oil to the USA!

NOT A SINGLE ONE.
It's always been about privatization.
If this pandemic has taught us anything, it's that a strong, centralized federal government is in the best interest of the people and that immoral greed is a feature, not a bug, of the Trump administration.

(1,040 posts)By the way, if the postal service folds, what happens to the pensions of currently retired workers? They don't participate in Social Security.

(10,429 posts)kill the post office and the postal union along with it, prevent the postal service from switching to an all-electric fleet (which would have greatly sped up advances in electric cars) and build up a nice asset to be handed over to FedEx or UPS when they eventually buy it.

(4,379 posts)Many Americans do not know what has been done to the post office or its workers for many years. The best way I can explain is, it was Trump like crazy shit that was inflicted upon the post office and its workers. I know because I was one of the victims. I watched good worker after good worker have their lives destroyed by management all in the name of, nobody knows. It was a kind of crazy that cannot be explained, that's the truth.

They lobbied for years to kneecap the USPS to make them their rural and overflow delivery service at a penny over cost. They would save by not hiring employees or maintain a national fleet of vehicles. This allows them to Privatize Profits and Socialize Expenses.
Any change to this structure would fuck them over big time.
