Health officials believe Philadelphia could become next coronavirus hot spot

PHILADELPHIA - Health officials believe that Philadelphia could be the next hot spot for the novel coronavirus.

This belief surfaced on Wednesday at the White House Task Force press briefing, when Vice President Mike Pence issued a direct message to Philadelphia.

Our message to the people of the Philadelphia area is, now more than ever, practice the social distancing so that Philadelphia -- and, to some extent, even Pittsburgh -- do not have to ensure what other communities before them have had to endure," Pence said.

The claim seemed to take Philadelphia’s Health Commissioner Thomas Farley by surprise. Farley says the White House is looking at the high percentage of the region’s positive Covid-19 tests.

1. If Pence is saying it, it is political and likely not based on facts.

They didn't see fit to announce previously emerging hot spots.

They have an ulterior motive for having announced this.

I don't know what it is, but I'd bet a week's pay on it.

2. There's some actual testing happening in that area, so the #s are higher.

Probably not any worse than any coastal city in terms of actual cases. But appearances are all that matter to the White House and more testing around Phila. has made it look worse.
