(28,932 posts)I hope it does stay to 60,000 but we are a third there and this is going to go on for the rest of the year. I know they expect cases to drop off a lot next month but there is still another 7 months for deaths to come in. Even if it's a low number every day, if you have just a few for 200 days it adds way up.

Last week could be typical for a bit.
30k by this time next week is not terribly unlikely.

As I understand it, their projections are not for total deaths, but rather deaths through some time in August assuming social distancing is maintained. They're working on projections for what happens in various "reopen" models.

(15,286 posts)facilities, regardless of age, are just more at risk from any disease. They are generally older and sicker and harder to isolate. Every flu season is a worry at these facilities.

(54,372 posts)Until you test everyone, you don't KNOW how many people are infected. YOu only know how many ouot of those tested were infected.
Here in Germany, they are reporting 100,000 cases of infection. Great, they have tested maybe 2½% of the population. Are we supposed to believe that there zero cases among the 97½% that has NOT been tested? Here, if you die from it, but didn't get tested for it, then according to the government, you died from something else. ANYTHING else. Just not the virus.
