Took my temperature as I do every morning now, since the virus and doing homecare for a 94 year old. My thermometer was old and had a second one my sister gave me. My temps had been fine on hers, slightly below normal. This morning I took it and my temp was 105. Took it again and it was 109. I knew I would have been dead if it were true. Lol.
Finally used my old one and was 98.8. Got to say, in these times the first reading freaked me out.
Fact is if I get sick it is all on my sister, if she gets sick it is all on me...we both get sick, well then we take care of mom till she dies and at our age, who knows if any of us will be left standing.

I was well aware it was incorrect...however in these times it is scary and yes, freaked me out.

(38,410 posts)My daughter did have a fever, but it registered on a relatively new thermometer first as 106 and then as 107.
It took us all day and we still couldn't find (1) a thermometer or (2) a battery to buy. We borrowed one neighbor's (couldn't get the stupid ear-mometer to work), and a second neighbor's - finally success. 12 hours after we started, her temperature was 102.7.
Sick, but not close to death.
(Fortunately, flu, fortunately an antiviral and her kick-ass immune system knocked it out in 3 days.)

I really hate the digital thermometers.

(38,410 posts)Even the forehead one we finally got hold of seems off to me.
Give me an old mercury one any day.
The mercury ones were reliable. You didn't have to push buttons, ya stuck it in and read your temp in five minutes.
Take care of you and yours.

I mean, I know I'm cool, but...

(38,410 posts)Maybe it's real, or maybe it is just the difference betwen digital and mercury thermometers . . .

(11,949 posts)Immediately. I feel like shit.
We have a fancy pants thermometer. I never use it to see if I have a fever. Only how high it is.

Yup, I did that once or twice.

(8,148 posts)of us, looking at worst case scenario gets pretty scary. But the best case scenario, you all survive,
is probably given your distancing, the most likely. Bless you.

(1,731 posts)I truly admire people like you. It takes a lot of strength to be a caregiver. My mom is new to taking care of my grandmother and it's been really tough for her. It's beautiful that you and your sister have each other. May all three of you guys come through this safely.

(71,522 posts)Take care of yourself...you know about putting oxygen masks first on yourself and then on kids or in your case your Mom on a plane? Same is true for you now. You must take care of yourself.
