Trump is currently getting at least 14 hours of free media each week in the place of coverage of 1-2 two hour rallies. Its time for Joe to demand his share of free media to help shape the narrative for the fall.
I think Joe BIden should hold daily Coronavirus counter briefings. The one hour briefings should occur immediately before Trumps pseudo-rallies, and both respond to the previous days briefing errors as well as address the current available medical and economic data. The briefings should be remote, Zoom-style, professional quality (if Colbert can have excellent quality home broadcasts, so can the Biden campaign), and I envision the following format:
Introduction by Joe Biden: brief introduction/summary of that days briefings agenda, followed by
Admiral Timothy Zeimer (former director of pandemic response team disbanded by Trump): Admiral Zeimer (if he hasnt retired, might need a different surrogate from disbanded pandemic team) could address the latest medical data, and echo/support the recommendations by Dr. Fauci; followed by:
Paul Krugman: the economist could speak about the latest economic data, followed by:
Senator Elizabeth Warren: Senator Warren could speak about proposed plans, supported by the Biden campaign for both immediate and future legislative actions needed to address the crisis, followed by:
Senator Bernie Sanders: Senator Sanders would speak about local organizing efforts to combat corona virus, perhaps highlighting successful grassroots efforts at bending the curve, get PPE to essential workers, etc. Followed by:
Rep. Katie Porter:(or other house rep approved by Speaker Pelosi) Rep. Porter would also speak about proposed/pending legislative remedies to address both medical and economic issues.
Closing by Joe Biden: Biden would thank the speakers, and offer gratitude for all the frontline workers at risk, and sympathy for the families who have lost loved ones and those who continue to struggle with the hardships imposed by this crisis.
Each segment would be 5-10 min. Long max, with press questions either after each segment, or hosted by Joe at the end. The important thing is that Trump should never be mentioned by name or title, only the actions/inactions of the administration should be discussed and critiqued, contrasting with the Biden teams more effective solutions (the exception of course being the echoing of Dr. Faucis recommendations).
These briefings should serve as a reliable one-stop-shop for accurate information, helpful science-based recommendations, proposed solutions and supportive, hopeful affirmations. In addition to scientific accuracy, warmth, humour, and empathy are essential. By holding the briefings just before Trumps, reporters can then ask Trump to respond to Joe, not the other way around.
If the networks fail to carry Bidens daily briefings live, then any Democrat on any news show should bring that up relentlessly.
Anyone here connected to the Biden team that can pass this idea on?
