GOP lawmakers: Fauci may be doing more harm than good

How freaking dumb are these people? Turn on the damned news, and leave Fauci alone!

GOP lawmakers: Fauci may be doing more harm than good
By J. Edward Moreno - 04/11/20 03:31 PM EDT

Republican Reps. Andy Biggs (Ariz.) and Ken Buck (Colo.) criticized Anthony Fauci, the nation’s leading infectious disease expert, for the impact of his social distancing recommendations, claiming that the stay-at-home policies informed by those recommendations have forced businesses, workers and corporations into economic turmoil.

“For Fauci, is it merely a societal or economic inconvenience that about 17 million workers are unemployed because of the government’s response to the coronavirus pandemic, with many more to come in the weeks and months ahead? The economic calamity lies largely with the origination of policies resulting from Fauci's recommendations,” the lawmakers wrote in an op-ed in the Washington Examiner published Saturday.

Biggs and Buck, both members of the conservative Freedom Caucus and staunch allies of President Trump, join others on the right in criticizing public health officials on the administration’s coronavirus task force. On Tuesday, Tucker Carlson, a conservative commentator on Fox News, said that Fauci “shouldn’t be making economic decisions.”

The lawmakers' op-ed comes as the United States has seen record increases in unemployment. In the first week of April, more than 6 million people filed for unemployment, according to data released by the U.S. Labor Department. More than 10 million people applied for unemployment in the last two weeks of March as businesses shuttered due to fears of the pandemic's spread.

“The longer government-imposed lockdowns go on, the more people will lose their jobs — millions more,” the lawmakers wrote. “Thousands of businesses will close their doors. The physical and emotional toll from this self-imposed economic destruction will be worse than the doomsday prophets projected.”

Protecting public health. It has been the driving force behind everything he does. He has no political affiliation and never has. He's worked under both republican and democratic administrations.

These republican vermin have no medical experience, education or background. They do not know what they are talking about. All they seem to see are the dollars that their donors are not putting into their pockets right now. These fools are so singular in mindset, so shallow of thought and possess no ability to see beyond their immediate bitching target. COVID -19 doesn't give a flip who it kills. But you know who does ?

Internationally-recognized public health expert, Doctor Tony Fauci. It's all he cares about.

What's Fauci supposed to do? Come out and sugar coat things? My guess is they're looking for a scapegoat in case things go bad after lifting the stay-at-home orders.

And everyone would be happily going to work, and school, and restaurants, and Vegas. No one would even notice the mass death, mass sickness, and collapsed medical system.

That is what amazes me about people like these two creatures.

When a day normally includes thousands dying in agony, business as usual is not possible. What people will be doing is trying to avoid becoming a corpse, and they will not be thinking of much else, either.

To say people like this have dead souls is to overstate their capacity for humanity by several orders of magnitude.

it would be difficult for them to imagine being phased by other people dying en masse. They just can't imagine that anyone would be bothered.

A mind and personality would have to be utterly incapable of empathy to imagine human beings could bear it.

Watch and see, they'll be making up phony numbers to show more people are losing their lives from the economic impact than from the virus itself, in order to justify reopening the economy.

Weld County, where most of his district resides, ranks 9th in Colorado by population, but 4th in the number of COVID-19 cases (649 as of yesterday) and 2nd in the number of deaths (40, just 2 shy of Denver County which has more than double the population). The JBS meat packing plant which has had 2 deaths so far from COVID-19? - in Buck's district. People in his district (of which I am sadly one) are being disproportionately affected by COVID-19, and all he cares about is getting the stay-at-home order rescinded and getting people back to work.

it makes no sense to blame Fauci for the measures. He recommended them, Trump as president decided to implement them.

Tucker says Fauci "shouldn't be making economic decisions". He knows he's not.

This is just blame shifting for the economic harm caused by Trump's failure.

When it comes down to it, the ones that will be "making economic decisions" will be the American people. They seem to think when they "reopen the economy" that will be going out in droves spending money. Personally, I'm not going to take that risk until I feel totally comfortable in doing so. And I think a lot of people are going to feel the same way.
