profiteering pricks

I had to go out to get a prescription, milk and eggs.

Near the store was someone peddling phony shit to desperate people.

She asked me if I wanted a few bottles of Purex @ $50/each.

I knew it was a scam. Had it been a man, there's a good possibility I would have assaulted him.

People like this suck, yet, they are trying to survive.

Donald Trump is the worst of them and doesn't deserve to prosper, be well, or even inhabit this planet.

I hold out hope for the survival of humanity. Somehow, I wish those who are truly evil were not among them.

while trying to hunt down some unbleached flour on eBay, I came across this:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Krusteaz-Buttermilk-Pancake-Mix-10-Pound-Bag/362965157275?hash=item548268c59b:g:dP4AAOSwf1Reiphj

A ten pound sack of pancake mix for $1.795.00!!!

I doubt this gouger is going to get this price, but looking at the seller's feedback, it seems that a lot of people have been willing to pay outrageous prices for other stuff.

Adam Smith's "invisible hand" is giving us all the finger right now.

So many crooks were ready for the government to put in place a mechanism for desperate businesses to get immediate financial help, that the second the online applications were available, thousands of bogus applications flooded in, siphoning off government aid money, which was immediately transferred to offshore or Eastern European (non EU) accounts. It was stopped within a day, but at the cost of strangling legitimate businesses who were in trouble, and after tens (or hundreds?) of millions were stolen from the EU taxpayers.

My wife, a normally reliable pacifist SPD/Greens voter, wanted every one they caught to be put naked in a glass cage in every town square for a week.

The only way a thief ever gets jail time in Germany is by using a gun in the robbery. Otherwise, they are always let off with a warning or a suspended sentence. While I applaud my wife for her creativity, I would prefer a mandatory jail sentence of ten years for such a crime, plus an additional year for every week they do not make complete restitution to the people of the country they ripped off.

My pity to those who fell for it and bought it. But many people are desperate, panicked and incapable of rational thought.
