(7,621 posts)In their view, children are simply parasites weighing on employee productivity.
The governor is not a particularly smart man. Though masked as a "good Joe", he is "conservative", essentially insentient and pitifully bewildered by the results of his own actions. He is, also, adept at bloviating talking points embedded in his public personae.
Plus, he takes instructions well and is obedient to a fault. The perfect pawn for his masters. The fruit of his term can (and probably will) be as toxic as his predecessor's.

(14,956 posts)at least in some areas. If sick people don't get tested, then they don't count, right?

(9,097 posts)...we won't go back to the germ factories until everyone is tested.
Believe me, our unions won't allow it. In Florida the state constitution allows public unions, so even DeSantan can't get rid of us.
Everyone is teaching on line now - it's a challenge - but that's the way it is for now.

(13,200 posts)and grandson is senior there. Online in full swing. SIL says all but two kids are actively participating, hard to get used to, but seems to be working. He dresses each morning as he would if he were going in, and encourages his students to do so as well just to keep a routine and professional tone.

(9,097 posts)someone has been trying to call the missing ones. I've had a couple students caught on vacation overseas who can't get back. One in the hospital, a few taking care of sick relatives. It's all over the place. I'd guess 10%-20% are not on line. The district offers laptops and free wifi to students if they want.
We are beginning to look scraggly and need hair cuts. On line staff meetings are getting pretty humorous.
The reported numbers are way too low - maybe half the real cases if you talk to health folks.

(13,200 posts)but they both contacted him immediately. They both work for family businesses that have remained open.
Im not sure if our numbers are skewed. Our county is locked down with a police barrier. If you are familiar with the Keys, it is a chain of islands with one road in (technically two but that is included). Masks are mandatory in all stores. Beaches and state parks closed and barricaded. Non residents are gone for weeks now, and no rentals are allowed. So we are possibly the safest place in the country and our numbers are very low and only 3 deaths reported by the state... and in a county like this run by grapevine, if there were more, we would know. But we had to fight hard for this security... Gov D was against closing down our road to non residents , but Miami travelers and day trippers would have wiped us out in mere hours, so our local government made him see the error in his thinking.

(9,097 posts)We are in Clearwater. They kept the beaches open until after spring break. The big surge in the virus was 10 days after spring break, and mostly on the roads from the beaches. My zip code has very few cases (5?), but there are lots of older folks. The reported number of cases is going down, but who knows if the numbers are correct.
We have been home since March 13 except for grocery and drugstore trips. We both had a very bad cold in Feb - cough for weeks, sore throat, but no pneumonia. Went to our doctor twice. At the time, there were no tests, and we have no idea if we had the virus. It was our last visit to the doc in February that he mentioned the "new virus".
DeSatan is crazy...hard to believe that he was really elected.

(13,200 posts)She is the manager of Cooters restaurant, a block off the beach. My other daughter, wife of teacher SIL went to visit her when the spring breakers were all hitting the beaches and they were the last ones in the restaurant before it closed. They had me biting my nails for many days.
