40. And The Man With A Solid Minority, Sir
Has legitimately all the influence he is owed when a vote goes against him by a three to two margin. That is Sanders position. His earlier claims he would have 'leverage' at the convention were nothing but a threat to repeat the performance of his delegates at the 2016 convention. For that is certainly something Mr. Biden, and all Democrats, wish to avoid, as it would only benefit the cheap thug we must evict from office.
If there is to actually be unity, and a joint effort, he must stand down from these threats, and accept he is not in charge, and will get only what the majority is inclined to give him. the better he behaves, the more he may get. Threats will get him nothing but named in history as the man who did more than any other to put Trump in office, and maintain Trump in office when the last chips were down. |

45. It Is Exactly What I Have Always Maintained, Sir
The only possible difference between the two comments is that I translated Sanders' euphemism 'leverage' into plain English. Politics and governance, looked at squarely, are the business of determining who tells whom what's what. In a democratic body, or a democratic polity, this is determined by who has majority backing. In democratic governments and bodies, a minority faction cannot dictate terms. Sanders does not seem to have internalized this, and until he does, and states he will countenance no disruption, no displays of 'leverage', at the Party's national convention, his statements today, while to the good, cannot be trusted to indicate Sanders has joined in a unity of purpose and efforts. Mr. Biden is wise to treat today's statements publicly as such a juncture, and I would expect no less from a skilled professional. I am merely an irregular skirmishing in a political forum, and so am free to state things clearly.

52. Umhm. Sanders has to decide how he wants to spend the
rest of his political life, and he may have decided on a working relationship that would allow him to remain relevant and retain a place in the national spotlight on Biden. It is of course just like Biden to try to serve Sanders Democrats by offering their choice a chance at a meaningful role.
As said, of course, we'll see if Sanders can and will stick it. On the plus side, he has been disciplined enough to remain in congress since 1991, albeit with almost no attention paid to his complaints. But he knows how if he wants to. And while it'll enrage some followers, it'll please others to have him involved as we move forward. In any case, very good show today from these guys, starkly different from his endorsement of HRC, and glad to see it. ![]() |

37. Sad but true.
I keep thinking about the old slang "is you is, or is you ain't?"
Or the old Ken Kesey bit from "The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test" - "are you on the bus or off the bus?" We HAVE TO win this. We HAVE TO win this. We HAVE TO win this. It's all or nothing at this point. And Joe Biden isn't perfect, but the effort he's put in, as a graceful winner, proving he's a uniter, proving he has an empathetic heart while America is beside itself with confusion and fear. The effort he's put in, to reach across, be inclusive and gentle with a vanquished opponent. Classy. And SO definitely not a showboat. Dunno about anybody else but I myself am sick to death by now of the fucking reality show that so-called "pResident"-ringmaster-quizmaster-doctor-emcee-tabloid celeb trump produces and presents, and force-feeds us every day. And of course he's its star, leading man, international sensation, and lord and master too. Bernie - I hope you and your followers can come to understand, sincerely, that you are going to get A LOT more of what you want and yearn to see for this country from a President Joe Biden, than you EVER will from trump. EVER. Oh, and I forgot to say We HAVE TO win this. |

54. Actions Count For More Than Words, Sir
In this instance I do not mind repeating myself. Sanders must cease talk of 'leverage' to force changes in the platform and the rules at the convention. So long as he holds threat of disruption in reserve, Sanders has not joined in union with Mr. Biden's campaign to evict the cheap thug Trump from the White House. That is what he has to do, and he has to do it unreservedly.
I am happy to keep an open mind, and consider it possible Sanders will move on down the road he must travel, and do so soon enough to pull the teeth of whatever firebrands his organizations in the various states have credentialed as delegates committed to him. Past performance being the best guide to future action, however, I will need more convincing than 'Bernie' has provided today, welcome though his first steps to responsible behavior today are. |

It's characterized by at least 80% millennials. So please don't paint his voters with a broad brush. They're going to work together, follow them both to the convention, and do what Sanders and Biden agree on.
It's time to stop worrying about division, and welcome the unified front that we have, not pass along or amplify the lines of the Brad Parscale doubt and division machine. Let's focus on what's good about this, like Sanders' local VT coverage does. https://vtdigger.org/2020/04/13/sanders-endorses-biden-for-president-tells-supporters-to-come-together/ |
