He needed to be pressed and they did that. But I was surprised at the tone of voice of the reporters. More emotionality than I expected, and it seemed to me that much of the time Paula Reid sounded opinionated, negatively opinionated about Trump's position.

I know they're human and under a lot of pressure. I just think that the more dispassionate they can sound, it makes it easier to make their case. Not that I could do it at all. One reason I could never do that job.

I tried to imagine Yamiche Alcindor's tone of voice slipping into that kind of passion and couldn't.

I wanted to see their complete professionalism versus his ranting and raging. That contrast would have been very effective. I personally don't think they got there.

I do agree. Getting into a spat with him is still playing his game. Quietly repeated questions, focussed exactly on point, is the only way.

I have seen him on the back foot only once, when he was being questioned on 'Trump university' and he started to lose it.

This was on a point of fact about how many students had received refunds of course fees. It is amazing that interviewers haven't found his weakness and gone for it at every opportunity.

I am waiting for the day when more than one reporter arrives with a steel spine and blood in their eye.
