Georgia state Rep. Vernon Jones (D) broke with his party on Tuesday by endorsing President Trumps reelection bid, citing the president's handling of the economy and support for historically black colleges.
Jones told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that he was not switching parties but praised Trumps policies on certain issues.
Its very simple to me. President Trumps handling of the economy, his support for historically black colleges and his criminal justice initiatives drew me to endorse his campaign, Jones told the newspaper.
There are a lot of African Americans who clearly see and appreciate hes doing something thats never been done before, Jones added. When you look at the unemployment rates among black Americans before the pandemic, they were at historic lows. Thats just a fact.

(3,256 posts)I think a lot of them do it for the attention they get. The news media is always ready to run with it, but he actually makes no difference in the big picture. Factually, minorities always suffer the most in a recession and are the last to recover. One white lady told me she supported the thing that pretends to be a leader because she got a job while he was in office. This kind of support goes when the jobs go.

I automatically hoped this disgraceful person would change his party registration now that he's come out as supportive of RW corruption, racism and nativist bigotry, misogyny, increasingly fascistic authoritarianism, including election theft (what did they promise him?), elder cleansing, and all the rest. (Trump's economy's a phony excuse.)
But reality is that conservative Democrats almost all split their votes between parties, whereas conservative Republicans vote Republican. And we have to beat them before this guy ends up on the winning side, until they kicked him out of course.
