Talking to a friend tonite. He hates trump and the rethugs

But I was kind of surprised to hear him expressing doubts about the pandemic. It sounded like his rationale was that he didn’t know anyone who had gotten sick themselves or knew anyone who had gotten sick. I didn’t argue about it with him, but if he thinks that way I can see how trumphumpers have themselves convinced it’s overblown or something.

I think it’s real likely the US will try to open back up for business like the orange POS wants, sooner rather than later. Then things will start all over again. Most people I know are taking the whole thing seriously, but I realize I don’t associate with a lot of people and am surprised when I talk to someone who is not taking it seriously.

I had to go in recently for some routine tests, and it was practically fortified. A large banner reading 'Heroes Work Here' was on the street side, with several small hand-lettered signs of thanks beneath it. At the sole entrance open I was quizzed on symptoms and my temperature taken before I could proceed any further inside. A large tent was in front of the emergency room entrance, to accommodate people arriving on gurneys for similar initial examination. My usual doctor, who had had to postpone our appointment for assessing my leukemia medication, I encountered passing the lab in the hallway. We spoke at a distance of four long strides, carefully maintained. I was glad to see him, I know he will be losing patients to this contagion. The air of siege in the place was palpable.

I have low level myeloma, so far not even being treated just monitored. I suspect they’ll delay my appointment. Since it’s a cancer hospital many people have compromised immune systems and even under the best of circumstances many people wear masks and you are questioned when arriving about any possible symptoms. I have not been there since the pandemic came to the states.

But I think my friends attitude is probably not that unusual right now. I’m retired so this stuff is mostly an inconvenience for me but I realize many people are out of work now and can’t survive this way and things will have to loosen up. My old crew from before I retired are all working from home. I had the kind of job that was possible but obviously many people aren’t in that situation. It’s rough for them now and will remain for for some time.

Republicans need to stop playing games to try and divert relief funds to their donors and cronies, and join in support of directing relief to people who need it, in amounts substantial enough to give the assistance needed by people serving the needs of the community's health by obeying doctors and competent political leaders.

In some areas of the country, the virus isn't having much effect at all. That may change, but right now it isnt.

At some point, we're going to have to open back up. Even if it means flareups. We simply can't stay locked down until there's a vaccine. People may fear the virus, but they also fear economic collapse and destitution.

There's a limit to how long people are willing to put up with restrictions. Compliance has always been shaky in certain places, and not just in red states. Outright defiance is already breaking out here and there and will increase the longer this goes on.

He just had Covid. Now he's back at work. There was a hearse at the front door this morning when he went into work. The nursing home dining room is full of the possessions of residents who died. There is no where else to put them since family members can't come in to retrieve them.Their family members were not able to see their loved ones for the last month due to quarantine and now the family members are dead. Half the staff also has Covid.
I have heard people I formerly respected talk about how Covid was fake, and they didn't personally know anyone who had it. They should visit a nursing home . They did not have enough PPE, but they tried to keep it out with many different measures. When you work with the sick elderly, you expect death, but not this. It is devastating.
