But what is the justification that Kyle Larson loses his job when we have a president and others in prominent places using the very same language? As they laugh about their insults and saying it was only a joke. Kyle Larson, an blooming Star in NASCAR driver, was wrong and harsh punishment is in order, but the punishment should not be limited to the few!

(182,769 posts)Obviously, its a tough situation for the whole sport, right? Its something that obviously none of us want to hear. And the facts are: Hey, when we sign up for this, we know that youre supporting and representing Fortune 500 companies. You look at Shell, Pennzoil, Coca-Cola, Ford these are all huge companies that you are representing.
Even more importantly, youre representing your own brand, whether its the Joey Logano brand or whatever it is. You always have to be on. Someone always has that camera phone, someone always has the ability to show what youre doing. And its a good reminder for all of us. Whether youre a race car driver or not, whether youre working at the bank or the grocery store, pumping gas, whatever you may be doing your brand is always the most important, and everyone sees that all the time. And you always have to think of: What is my brand? And what do I want it to be? How do I want to be represented? And thats the things that we have to think about all the time.
Moments like this are good reminders. I hate to see that happen to Kyle. I feel for him and his family. Obviously, a huge adjustment from what it was two days ago. But things like that are not accepted in our society, and they shouldnt be.

(64,995 posts)I don't see Legano shilling here.
He's on the right side of this.
What I read is, it's stupid to be this careless, because even if your motivation is self-preservation, one should know better.
He's simply aware that others connected to drivers just can't have this!

(182,769 posts)Not the use of representing yourself or who you are.
Brand is such empty corporate speak to me.

(7,503 posts)That being said you just can't say that. I know it was probably said in jest. Some of his best friends are of color. However you just can't do that. Just because others say things worse doesn't absolve you. He will pay a horrible price. Personally I think Ryan Newman made a much more horrific statement when he said I support Donald Trump for president. But that's just me.

(25,485 posts)does not give him the license to say what he said...glad action was taken swiftly...in these day and age, still coming out with that sort of excuse is beyond the pale..

(7,503 posts)I didn't excuse him in any way. I condemn what he said. All I was doing is stating facts.

(53,764 posts)what the deal is in big-time racing. As he said, high-profile drivers always have camera phones and mics recording them so they can't afford to make stupid mistakes like using racial slurs.
