Homeless Americans sleeping in taped squares in a parking lot, while the Las Vegas strip, full of empty hotel rooms, shimmers behind them.

Ezekiel 16:48-49-50 New American Standard Bible
48 "As I live," declares the Lord God, “Sodom, your sister and her daughters have not done as you and your daughters have done.
49 Behold, this was the guilt of your sister Sodom: she and her daughters had arrogance, abundant food and careless ease, but she did not help the poor and needy.
50 Thus they were haughty and committed abominations before Me. Therefore I removed them when I saw it."

haughty: Scornfully and condescendingly proud. synonym: arrogant.
(from The American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language, 5th Edition.)

Proverbs 16:5 New American Standard Bible
"Everyone who is proud in heart is an abomination to the LORD; Assuredly, he will not be unpunished."

Assuming you put any stock in the easily manipulated text of the bible, the republican party is the party of Sodomites as prescribed in Ezekiel. If Jesus is more than a myth, it's not gay marriage that will incite his wrath.

P.S. Longtime lurker here, but had to open an account to say this. The whole Sodomy Lie/neglect of the poor is a personal pet peeve of mine. Thank you to all the long time posters on DU, you have helped me hold onto the few scrapes of sanity I have left. Please everyone stay safe, tend to your neighbors, and keep up the good fight.

San Francisco Lawmakers Order Mayor To Lease Hotel Rooms For Homeless

"Local lawmakers in San Francisco have given the mayor 12 days to secure 7,000 hotel rooms to house the city's homeless population during the coronavirus emergency, plus another 1,250 rooms for frontline workers.

The emergency ordinance passed by the San Francisco Board of Supervisors requires Mayor London Breed to secure the rooms by April 26 and asks her to use emergency powers to commandeer the rooms if she is unable to reach deals with hotel owners."

What even is the point of doing this? They'd be as comfortable (and much safer) sleeping on cardboard padding spread out in various alleys across the city.

They aren't six feet apart and they aren't getting any actual shelter. Are they luring them all together with the promise of a meal and then trying to infect as many people at the same time to get it over with?

I just don't understand...

And angry. We could end the homeless suffering in a week if capitalism and landlords are put in thier place, and rent caps based on income are the norm. All the neglected empty houses could do wonders for homeless people.

Fuck the landlord's greed.

but who's going to clean and service the rooms? That would concern me, both as the hotel owner, and as a temporary resident. You can't really ask someone from housekeeping to risk their health/life in the cleaning of the rooms, can you? That's a legitimate question I think.

Jaysus! Even in the military you get a cot, a pillow and a blanket. Trillions of our taxpayer dollars go to the military but we can't buy some freakin' cots from Wal-Mart for these people?
