They blame the WHO, except that the US is a major funding source for the WHO and helped write the rules that govern its activities. The WHO is not blameless. They did make mistakes, however as an article I read stated, "Trump ignored the WHO's suggestions about banning travel from China, so what is the big deal?"
The WHO was not slow in warning anyone. They were telling everyone to ramp up monitoring and preparations in January. Their suggestion about borders was not to keep them open as in let anyone come and go. They were saying that official border crossings should not close because those are places that could set up monitoring and testing. They did not want people to start crossing illegally because official crossing areas were closed. They also wanted any closures to be brief in hopes that the normal flow of life would continue (which is what Trump was saying for over 6 weeks AFTER WHO declared a pandemic).
I am just wondering how Taiwan, South Korea, and other countries were able to get ahead of the pandemic when we all got that "late" information from the WHO at the same time? Rhetorical question. Those other countries have leadership that was actually concerned about the people, or at least the disruption to the economy instead of how they were going to look.
