During his latest White House coronavirus press briefing, President Donald Trump faced questions on his decision to defund the World Health Organization.

Trump replied with a confused rant about China, claiming that they get preferential treatment from both the WHO and the World Trade Organization because they’re a “developing country” — and “We’re a developing nation too, in my book.”

He proves it daily. The United States is by no means a "developing nation" we are a nation in late stage capitalism with a mature economy that has, over the last 60 years, the Republican Party has been setting up to be one of, if not the most unequal nation in terms of wealth inequality.

With the amount of wealth in this country, there should not be as many homeless people as there are. There should not be ANY childhood poverty. Not one of our veterans should be homeless. We have trillions of dollars to just pump into the economy AKA give to the rich, and to the large corporations. 82% of the current emergency stimulus is going to 43,000 millionaires.


No, we are not a developing nation by any metric, but Republican policies and this pandemic have highlighted the utterly disgusting relationship we have to Capitalism.

China, despite industrialization is still VERY rurual and under developed. That is why their economy had been growing by 9% yearly. They are not fully developed despite their heavy industrialization and their Tech sector. They are used for cheap labor and lax regulation by global corporations. They seem huge but our economy is much bigger and they have 2/3rds more population than we have.
