(10,106 posts)The Russian government has called VOA's Russian language broadcasts "subversive, sanctimonious, self-serving propaganda." Putin needs to control the media in his country to survive. Did he ask (order) Trump to appoint one of his flunkies?

(10,106 posts)"Last year, when his name started circulating in the press as a possible nominee to head the communications agency, critics aggressively mobilized against him, citing his ties to former White House adviser Steve Bannon...The two worked together on two documentaries, and in 2017 Pack wrote an article for the Federalist praising Bannon, arguing that he could help break liberals 'monopoly' on documentaries. He also jabbed at U.S. film schools, arguing that they are dedicated to 'liberal indoctrination and grooming.'"
I found these articles from The Guardian and Vanity Fair interesting when first reading about Michael Pack's stalled nomination. Bannon's (and Trump's) anti-China/pro-Russia stance explains a lot about the politics involved.

Trump probably feels a certain affinity for Pack since he was also accused of skimming non-profit donations, much like the Trump Foundation:

This nomination stinks.

(32,626 posts)anything that has been said and done in the last several years? I would not presume to know what will or won't be done by the federal government these days. The 'it can't happen here' days are long gone.

(46,034 posts)remember how McConnell had one token Senator gavel in once a day and gavel out a little while after that, to show that the Senate was in session -- so as to thwart Obama from naming a judge or a cabinet official as a recess appointment.
I don't think anybody can adjourn the Senate but the Senate itself.
