The mayor of Las Vegas is a kook. Just sayin'

Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman again implored the governor to allow businesses to reopen amid the coronavirus pandemic, saying today the shutdown is “killing” the economy.

Goodman, who earlier compared the virus to the common flu, also questioned whether there was data to support the shutdown and downplayed the number of virus-related deaths.

Goodman expressed condolences over the 130 coronavirus deaths in Nevada, but she emphasized the patients died from complications attributed “in part” to COVID-19. The number of deaths should not warrant such drastic measures, she said.

“Those whom we’ve lost represent less than a half of 1% of our population, which has caused us to shut down our entire state and everything that makes Nevada unique,” Goodman said.

3. "we've lost less than 0.5% of population"? It's only just starting, dimbulb.

0.5% of 644,000 is 3,200 deaths.

All of Nevada has had 136 deaths. The two are inconsistent.

Was she drunk when she spoke or is she incompetent? Could be both.

But the real question is: How many deaths would be too many, Carolyn Goodman?

4. It doesn't matter if we open all businesses or not. Vegas will be dead for a year or more at least.

There won't be much international travel until there is a cure, and international travel accounts for a large percentage of their business. Domestically, we're in a great depression. No one is gambling in these times.

and we've been lucky as shutting down the strip cut down on all the flights here from all over the world.

We have a Dem governor and he's been pretty good. He shut everything down weeks ago, and schools won't be open the rest of the school year. He wants more testing and contact tracing before re-opening the strip.

And yes,she is a real piece of work. BTW,she and her Hubby were part of a Recall bid to remove our Governor. She is still pissed because her Hubby lost his PR job with the Visitor and Convention Bureau two weeks ago because of Budget cuts. 85k for just showing up at Grand Openings shit faced.

“900,000 have lost jobs. 300,000 have already filed for unemployment,” Goodman said. “These are families that no longer have the ability to buy food for their children and other loved ones.”

Doesn’t this just highlight the inadequacy of the unemployment system in Nevada. We’ve spent so much time worrying that unemployment benefits are so generous that they discourage seeking work and not nearly enough on making sure the system is robust enough to withstand this kind of crisis.

The owners of these places will be at home staying safe while they make everyone go back to work.
They will make sure THEY are safe.
We will be the ones to be thrown back out there and if something happens, well.. oh well. Prayers and best wishes from the GOP.

Ugh.
