Joe Biden: America is great 'because of immigrants'

Former Vice President Joe Biden praised immigrants for making America a great nation.

SAFAA ELZAKZOKY: So my question is: We lost a coworker at my plant because there is no regulation to protect machine employees. We can work safely and get the people meat that they need to eat, so what would you do to protect a worker like my friend who just died?

By the way, I've been to Egypt a number of times. And you know why we're such a great country here in the United States? Because of immigrants like you, who come here from every part of the world.

I have no quibble with Joe or with his statement. Immigrants definitely had a hand in helping to build America, and to make her what She is. However, there were souls bought to this country against their will across a dangerous and murderous Middle-Passage packed onto a boat, who once here were seen a property to be bought and sold like livestock, who were treated hideously who would like for us not to forget that they too helped to build this country, and make America what she is (Slaves helped to build the White House). People often just like to say that immigrants built this country. I think to myself, aren't you forgetting about other non-immigrants who helped to make this country what it was/is?
