I never do stuff like that - but he is trying to be "helpful" by sending out Covid19 info to folks in the neighborhood (he sits on homeowners board) unfortunately from unreliable sources like Fux. I don't know if he will think twice in the future about sending out garbage, but I felt unable to resist the urge to push back. I don't have very many trumpy neighbors, but this is one...
JOURNALISM PROFESSORS CALL FOR AN END TO FOX NEWS CORONAVIRUS 'MISINFORMATION' IN OPEN LETTER TO RUPERT MURDOCH
Columbia Journalism School Professor Todd Gitlin and 73 others said: "The misinformation that reaches the Fox News audience is a danger to public health. Indeed, it is not an overstatement to say that your misreporting endangers your own viewersand not only them, for in a pandemic, individual behavior affects significant numbers of other people as well.
"Yet by commission as well as omissiondirect, uncontested misinformation as well as failure to report the true dimensions of the crisisFox News has been derelict in its duty to provide clear and accurate information about COVID-19."

(8,200 posts)The air waves belong to the people and a license is predicated on being a service to the people, not a dissemination of propaganda. The entire staff of the FCC board has totally failed the citizens and corrective action must be taken. The Reagan rape of the system must be addressed including multiple station ownership and the fairness doctrine. A critical segment of our citizens are being absolutely brainwashed by the Republican charlatans. Charges should also be brought against those such as the quacks Dr. Phil and Oz for outright misinformation and their privilege to hold licenses investigated. They told millions of listeners outright lies and misleading information and should be held accountable and could be responsible for thousands of deaths by the gullible listeners.

(22,114 posts)and confusion among their viewers. faux news needs to be held accountable. Of course now they are changing their tune, after the evidence smacked them in the damn face. I'm surprised that they haven't been sued yet (I seem to recall something coming out that someone is suing them, I don't recall). How do they get away w/ it? How does the idiot so called president get away with all of the thousands of lies?
One day, there will be a serious reckoning and the long arm of the law should be used to protect the public good by going against these people, after all, it's almost just as bad as yelling 'fire' in a public venue.
Every enabler should be struck down. Every liar should be struck down. These idiots don't have any regard for the rights of others (nor health) so they should be nailed to the wall, and nailed hard. There are laws on the books regarding public health and safety, etc., surely there are laws that apply here. No blank checks have been granted to the so called president or faux news to break the law having the common sense to not put out false information that could harm others.

(7,715 posts)Good for you. This is a matter of life and death. No joke.
There are plenty of videos now where even Insanity Hannity and Mother F***** Tucker have conceded this is a deadly serious issue, so you can send this fellow those if he has any further doubt.

(53,410 posts)displaying about the pandemic would probably get his attention. Especially if you said you had always thought he was relatively well versed about facts, but that now he is a disappointment because you realize he is misinforming others which is putting them in danger.
Tell him you expected better from him.
If nothing else you might give him the needed insight that if hes playing Messiah for his friends then he should make sure hes informed in his messaging.
Making people realize theyre accountable for their words and actions will make most pause and reconsider their actions.
Since youre probably going to be dismissed as a libtard anyway then at least draw some blood. It might even help.

(266 posts)... several nuggets such as "Inexcusably, Fox News has violated elementary canons of journalism. In so doing, it has contributed to the spread of a grave pandemic." With circles and arrows, and a (short) paragraph on the back ... good job.

(367 posts)Tell him he is opening up a liability issue, that can result in him being sued for dissemination of invalid information. He could lose everything that he has!!! Scare the shit out of him!!!
Kind of in shock. Just spoke to him tonight (he did not mention my email about Fux News) just neighborly small talk then all of a sudden he commented "this virus is really something awful, I am so worried about so many people, I hope this all gets better soon before this president gets us all killed". Swear to God, he really said that. I have no idea when he started hating on trump but it's happening....

(10,053 posts)He is an elderly gentleman who has lived in my neighborhood for decades - friendly, not the typical obnoxious magat but still a trumpy fan. The last time he brought up trump he was gushing what a "great job" he was doing and how great the economy was. Since he was still sending out Fux News articles about Covid19 I assumed he was still drinking the trumpy kool aid, but I guess not. While the die-hards will never leave him, those who went along for the ride because they thought "what the hell, what do you have to lose" may be realizing the answer is: your life.
